The general rule of thumb is buy early. The earlier you buy the better price u will get no matter what you use. Now if you are a gambler, try and book a flight that will become over booked. If a flight becomes over booked it becomes an auction lead by the airline company. They start by offering a free flight on at a later time for people to give up their seats. If nobody on the over booked flight takes the deal they then move on to first class for free on a later flight. If nobody takes it the move on.. and on.. and on.. . My uncle was flying during Christmas and held out until they were offered 1500 flight miles for a family of 5. At that point he was like, fuck relatives, we're going to Florida for spring break baby.

Where are you from/going? This has nothing to do with priceline, but try skybus

If you make a 3 hour drive down to columbus, the airfire is going to cost you between $100-140 one way from Columbus to Vancouver. Check skybus.com
They don't have the dates that far ahead(only jan 5th right now, so check back in 3 days).
So you are going to be looking at a cost of $300 roundtrip max, with gas driving down.
