Interesting to note about under armour

iinstead of buying a big contest athlete like sammy carlson or andreas hatveit, they went with a mellow filming skier that is dash longe. its interesting that they didn't get a bigger name. i wonder why.

It's maybe because they hadn't the money to spancer bigger names. UnderArmour may be a big company but I doubt they put a lot of ca$h into their freeskiing oriented marketing campaign.

i went to school with dash, and i really don't think under armour works with his style.  plus, his name isnt that well know so I really don't understand why they didnt pick up a bigger name athlete

dash longe would look awesome on either siver or orage. mellower companies like that. and didn't siver go down, so thats not even really an option.

Good for Dash, he's killed it under the radar of most people for years.

As for under armor, what great marketing they have... take a long underwear company and make it cool.  I respect the people who did that.

i used to wear underarmour wen i skied during the first couple years, and then one day i just skied with a t shirt under and noticed no difference. but i still wear those tight boxer brief athletic short thingys under my crash pads because wearing boxers under crash pads can get annoying because you get horrible wedgies

Really, so by starting a company that makes long underwear and marketing it and making it 'badass' and 'cool' to almost every person in this country (AKA consumers), you don't see how great of marketing that is?  I don't disagree they're not marketing the right way in the freeski market, but that's not what I was talking about at all.  How many other long underwear companies do you see out there being worn by everyone and their brother?  Point proven.

It might be in some companies best ineterest to buy an upcoming athlete with lots of potential and make them a huge name.  Its a very normal marketing strategy.
I think companies like Under Armour opening their doors to skiing is a great thing.  It will only help grow the industry and support what we love so much.  If you don't like the company then don't buy their product.  There is no reason to start fighting with kids and telling them to die because of their opinion of a company.
Relax Newschoolers, its just skiing.

Not everyone has access to "core" companies that you speak of.  But pretty much everyone lives near a dick's sporting goods store, or (and i bet im not the only one) my grandparents and aunts always like to by me something like longunderwear or gloves or socks for skiing at christmas time.  If they see a skier on the underarmour sign they may just support a company that doesnt meet my "coreness"

Under Armor is legit, just because you don't like the company doesn't mean that their shit sucks.  I always wear UA when im out skiing, hunting or whenever I need to layer up.  Most people that don't like probably have never worn it.

I would't say dash is an up and comer, though probably under-rated.  he has been around a while.

as far as long underwear goes, I prefer merino wool. nothing against under armor. maybe I just like natural fibres. Something about it not retaining odor is great. I've worn a merino shirt skiing and then out afterwards to the bar. Something I would never have done in my polypro.

i think that hits what they are trying to do right on the head. i dont think UA is marketing to us newschoolers. they are marketing to everyone else who A) already buys their products and B) people who shop at places where their products are sold. they are targeting the moms who shop at places like Dicks and have skiers or snowboarders as children or who even just want to buy outerwear for someone who may not even ski or snowboard. theyre also targeting kids who buy their football, lacrosse, running, basketball etc gear and who are looking for outerwear. if they can get some of us to buy their stuff then great but i think they picked up dash more for the fact that they could have someone do tricks in their ads and commercials than to try and pick up a consumer market in the freeski industry

I used the long underwear for a few years. this year I switched to some 686 and patagonia stuff and it's so much more comfortable and warmer. Some people may like it but I'm not a fan anymore.

 I mean tehy are giving money for freeskiiing but arent getting anything in exhange pretty much.

I dont think many freestyle skiers will spend money n their clothes, they will rather spend  their money buying something core to freeskiing or snowboarding or something really cheap that looks good.

 I dont think many outsiders ( people not into freeskiing) would buy from core ski company (prolly more snowboarding stuff) so what they are doing is giving money to freeskiing without receiving any from freeskiing.

Bad marketing??? I'm not sure cause tehy are definatly making money with theirs ads showing skiers in them, just not from the good skier market that they are spending money in.

I wear pategonia long johns, but the reast is UA...even the socks....
I is super water/moisture repellant, it's light and extremly warm....
Mabey people hate cuz they skiied instead of playing sports, but the follow the same concept of all the other companies....NO F'ING COTTON!
