Ugh, help?

Okay, so I got a printer last year blahblahblah it worked fine all year (if it's of any importance its an HP PSC 1510). I moved out of my residence , and went away all summer so my printer just chilled in my basement at home. I move into my apartment this year, and my printer will not work. Everytime i turn it on it prints out something that looks like the printing test sheet and shows picture steps on how to scan the paper that it just printed off. But it won't print anything else.

I went through the whole troubleshoot tutorial thing. My cable is fine, and the USB port seems to work for everything but the printer. I guess what I'm getting at here is, has anyone experienced this, or something similar before? And what did you do? I'm thinking I should just uninstall and reinstall the printer software, but that would require going home and finding the CD, so if I don't have to resort to that life would be wonderful.

umm... if you're not using the same computer as before, you might have to re-load it. and re check everything.

my bro and i both had HP printers and they just died like 6 months after we got them...HP's are pieces of shit in my experience, im sorry though that sucks

try reinstalling the drivers, or if you got a new computer reinstall the printer. there's probably a way of getting the software from the site so you don't need to find the cd.

i have the exact same printer. try letting it print the test sheet then click print. if that doesnt work go to Print on word, what does it say under Name?

Hrm peculiar, it says HP photosmart C3100 series. Which is also an all-in-one printer. But I don't have another all in one printer. So how could that be there, and not mine.

i think i had something like this with my HP printer, and i got new ink, and it worked fine after that. i think i might have had the exact same problem as you. just get some new cartridges, and see if it works.

okay i might know?

once it prints out that test page, put it under your scanner and hit scan. there should be like a pop up that comes up when its printing and you should be able to click stuff once you scan it so it can see whats good. sorry my details suck but i had to do something like that...

I think he may be on to something. is it possible the printer wants to reconfigure itself and it's scanner so it wants you to go through the process again like you just bought it and installed it and now it's testing itself to align stuff and do whatever it does. if that makes sense..

exactly. once it prints the target page you put it in your scanner so it can reconfigure and then you will be set. you'll probably have to go through some set up thing or something but that should be self-explanatory...

Well it seems I have solved the problem, a foreign printer was installed and became the default on my computer, and my printer disappeared. So i just had to install the appropriate printer driver and all is well.
How all this happened? I have no idea, must've been ghosts.

In the future, just go to Printers and Faxes, right click on the printer you want to use, and hit "set as default printer"
