any request a racer makes when tuning their skis... they should tune their own damn skis if they are going to be so anal about everything

racers should know how to tune their own damn skis anyways.... on of hte racers i know has his own shit, and tunes it up him self. if they are true racers, and actually have requestes, they should deffenitly do it them selves.

werd, unless I can do it on a grinder, don't expect em to throw a 3/2 on your skis with a 1.2 on the inside edges from 7 inches in front of the binding to the tip.  and then ask for dominator butter and expect it to be included in the price when it retails for $35 an ounce...

Oh, man I got soooo many.

Do you wear your shoes inside the boots?

Where do I get the ski sticks?

When asked which foot they ride forward on a board, their answer is, YES. WTF?

What level skier are you 1,2 or 3?(for din setting) I have gone 3 times, so level 3?

My bindings are broken. AKA the heel piece is up when they are trying to put their foot in.

There are so many more, but those are some of my favorites, and I get asked those about once a week, lol.

hey! I got those guys sittin in my kitchen! hahah. but yea, working in a shop, you definatly hear some crazy shit. i always love the guy that comes in, thinks he knows everything, throws all sorts of ski manufactuer jargon around, "power flexation super cap, energy driver beam, power transfer carbon core dampener", and waste 1000s of dollars on a bitch stick packed with gimics, instead of buying a real ski. Also, we get a ton of people commin in for snowboards, actin like they are pros, etc etc. see um at the hill, and they are just fallin down the hill like total fools. gotta love it.

I have the best shop response.  I asked "do you guys have a jig for the older Look p12 model?"  His response, and yes, he was a shop tech, "Does Look even make bindings anymore?" ....

i've had people ask me if they need to take their shoes off when i measure their feet, or take their shoes off to put the ski boots on, way too many times this year.

kid comes in with his grandmother, asks for an application.  in the meantime, he moseys on over to the snowboards, starts flexing and letting go of them and goes "oh man, this ones got great snap back."  thanks bud, most snowboards stay put when you flex em, you found a keeper.

apparently this is kid thinks he should work at a shop.

well tonight i had to listen to a guy from k2 tell us how "rad" the 3 degree bevel on their snowboards is...

and earlier a guy came to pick up his skis and while i was explaining the din settings he was looking at me like i was talking russian so i was kinda like "okay just sign the form and thats all"

and i love all the people who come in and theyre like "my kids 13 and about yay high, what ski should he use?" and im like "bring the kid in!" and theyre like "no i cant its a christmas present!!" one person even showed me a picture of their kid and expected me to know what ski to give them

wanna know whats even funnier? the people that they would hire to work at my store. fuck they were stupid, lets just call this store, tommy and lefebrve in Ottawa. i over heard this girl trying to sell armadas to this kid and she says 'yea armada is made by burton' so i turn around and im like no... not its not, and shes like yea it is. I wanted to punch her in the face. who would know more me who has been skiing for 14 years and freestyle skiing for 4? or this stupid girl that came in because she just needed a job.

a guy asked me where our high end stuff was, so i showed him the Volkl AC40. he said it wasn't good enough for him.  (mind you he was prob 60 and weighed ~240 lbs)  so i asked what he was looking for, and he replied..."A real ski shop!"  then he asked where our high end boots were, so i showed him last years Beast 12's.  he said those weren't good enough either, so i asked him what sort of flex he was looking for in a boot and he replies..."Don't Bait Me!  I have seen what you have, and i am leaving!"  so i showed him where the door was.

"those poles are way too short, when they're touching they ground your arms should be at a 90 degree angle.....i like mine a bit longer tho...more power."

a lot of these that i have read are everyday things that i hear in my shop. i have had way too many stupid/weird things that people have said/done to even start to list them.

but here is the absolute most frustrating thing that i hear literally everday:

"So do you ski, or snowboard?"

hearing that makes my skin crawl. if i wasn't a skier, how the fuck would i be able to fit you in boots and tell you how they should feel, or sell you skis and tell you exactly what they ski like, and why you might prefer them over another?

FUCK.

not a shop tech but as a customer i've been told some things.........

looking at a pair of anthems i was told "too bad it doesnt snow enough in the east for those, they'd be impossible in the park. I don even know why we carry those"
 
"you sure u want the edges sharper on the tips than in the middle, racers have sharp middles and detune the tips"   " I know, I ride park"  "I think you want the middle sharp"   "no, i ride park"   "yeah but still...."

I drew a line in sharpy  then wrote mount here, crossed out the standard line and wrote not here. they call me up asking "you know the line you drew is ahead of the standard mount line?"

I was a guide, and some people say the dumbest stuff to guides.

"Do you want me and my son to show you how its done?" - Guy from Oklahoma, he and his son blew ass, but they had skied at Crested Butte last year.

"I dont want twin tips, its not like anyone can land backwards in deep snow." - ???

"Don't underestimate how good the skiing in Minnesota is." - My boss was from Minn and he fell down laughing

"Can you do a 360 off/drop off that cliff that with my jacket on??" - I heard this about ten times, posers

ive been at a sports store for just over a year now and ive deff heard my fair share of stupid or funny comments.

one thing i really hate is wen people see snowblades they go "ohhh, those are the trick skis". i usually get kinda angry and explain to them how gay they are.


one really funny story, prolly the best yet: lady calls the store, owner lets her know that she can prolly get a pair of used skis with bindings on them for around $70.(this was a little kid, and i work at play it again sports, for those of u that dont know of this chain of stores, we sell like 65% new and 35% used, its actually kinda cool and very cheap). she comes in with her little girl and the $70 skis are straight skis and are too small. so the ones that we can get for her are 90...20 dolla, not that big of a deal. not for her, she flipped out. it was like 0 degrees outside, my other manager comes in from his car n smokin a bowl to see her bawling on the phone, brings her inside, sells her the same skis plus more, and gives her a little discount but kinda not really. she spent more money then she was arguing about in the first place.
so this ladys husband comes in the next day, asks the same manager that was outside(vince) if he was eric(the guy that originally pissed her off). he says no. the husband gets the skis and everythings all good, they talk a little about how upset she was and vince explains what happened. the husband replies with "yeah, after she talked to you she seemed better" vince goes "yeah, i really pleased your wife last night didnt I" the customer replies with "yeah, you did" hahahahaha funniest shit ever


and, same guy vince was throwing a football around with this little kid. the kid almost hits his mom in the face and every1s like ooh, watch out. vince goes "moms used to balls in the face huh?"(cause they had a bunch of kids) and the husband replies with "yeah" and we were all dieing...


one night, another manager lee was on and its like 5 mins till close. lee asks this customer that just walks in if hes looking for anythin specific. the guy goes "no, im just looking around". lee replies with "well, feel free to buy somthin"

oh. and working at a used sports store, we take in trades. we get a bunch of rental skis and boots, but everything else used is just from random people around the area. this guy comes in with the oldest skis i have ever seen that weren't wood. n asks if we take them. "they are practically brand new" they are straight, so atleast what 9 years old. one of them, the newer one, was from atleast 15-20 years ago. almost an all white ski, little bit of bright neon colors, and straight white marker bindings...no1 that had worked there, including the owners had ever seen them before. the other skis were made in australia...this of coarse meant to him that we had to take them. these were the step above wooden. yeah, they were plastic, but the bindings had a toe piece for the front of ur shoe and basically springs/strings to hold ur heel in place. it was pretty much a homemade telli ski...

I had some one say somethign funny to me once. I was being all polite and asked 'hey i'm in the market for a new pair of park skies...any suggestions?' the guy goes over grabs some K2 apache recon 06 modles  and says to me 'Yes, this will solve all of your needs forever' It made me laugh anyways, he was serious.

i had a kid come in to pick up some invaders i mounted.... apparently i mounted one backwards! he insisted i re mount them the correct way so glady i drilled another 8 holes in each ski!  and send him on his way!
