Bio Majors

any kind of minor can be nothing but beneficial, it can surely expand your career possibilities by being able to blend two different fields into one [hopefully] more profitable career.

I am majoring in microbiology.  There are tons of jobs, as field biologists, lab biologists, researchers, private biologists. . . . the list goes on.  A very exciting field.  General Bio has a broader range of job opportunities I would imagine.  What kinda stuff are you interested in?

Honestly as long as your degree is academic in nature your all set.  A company is going to want to know that you're an intelligent person and that you can complete work effective, which a degree in any academic areas of study will prove.  I mean, 10 years down the road 90% of people are employed in a position that does not relate to their college degree.

BTW, getting a minor in econ/business would be a good idea.  I'm getting a minor in chemistry, but I am hoping to take courses in econ and business before I graduate.  A biochem friend of mine is getting his MBA once he graduates with hopes of owning his own biochemical company.  It is a smart move, and compared to the bio/chem econ/business would be a cakewalk.

I'm a senior in Biology with a concentration in Physiology. I'm not planning on med school. Bio is a great major just becasue of everything you can stick your fingers into from there. I've been working in basically what is a bioengineering lab for the past 3 years, and its cool stuff. After this year, I'm eventually going to do grad school and probably get a job working in a biotech company here in Seattle.

As for a minor, fuck it. Minors are useless, you should do a double major if you're really interested in that area. Otherwise, take those classes to fulfill gen ed requirements and use what you learn later in life.

There are lots of places to go with a bio major. Go to a career fair at your school, and get involved in some undergrad research so you have some job experience. Now is a good time to look for a job at your university, and if things go well, you might even graduate with your name in the journal of neuroscience, like me!

Haha, I spoke to soon in reality, the paper I have the lead on is being reviewed again, but its pretty much going to be in the next published issue.

if you dont wanna do med school go to optometry school or chiropractic school.  its all the same undergrad degree and basically the same money after grad school
