I cant believe i am about to drop over $1500 dollars this season... ive never spent this much

jacket, pants, skis, boots, gogs, pass... thank god im good in the binding dept... but i need wide brakes AHHH!!! theres another $50-75.... FUCK AND I NEED NEW GLOVES....

this is all for a 3 month midwest season mind you...

i wanna find the person that got my blue collar ass to fall in love with this white collar sport... and slap them...

its fucking rediculous really... it should be a fucking crime to price things so high...

yah im glad i dont have to buy a bunch of new gear this year...new helmet and a new outerwear setup from the house, barely over 200 bucks...

problem is im gonna be travelling out west a bunch over christmas break, and even though im gonna be staying for cheap/free at a lot of places, plane tickets are still a bitch so that trip is probably gonna be over 1000

yeah skiing is kinda the rich white person sport.  but yeah when you gotta buy new skis it sucks. i dont think i spent over $100 last year. i got the free pass from work used old skis all old equipment. just bought a jacket which was like $70 so i think i did pretty well.

I've spent £3000 on holidays this year, one of which was a summer holiday, the rest were ski holidays. And thats not including new gear.

im 90% sure you didn't need 90% of that stuff. Most of the people on this site have like 20 pairs of skis, when you only really need 3 ( urban, pow, and park). Like im not gonna lie, i have two suits, and a bunch of skis.....but do I need it?  The answer is no.  The only reason its expensive is because you make it expensive. There are many ski bum tricks so you can get a free pass, cheeper gear, and just to save money. It is not an expensive sport, not by far......not when you look at biking, golfing, hockey, etc.  Like for kids to play hockey  back home its 1500 for registration, then your gear, then the trips......like that is fuckin expensive.

like he said ^ there are tricks of the trade man.

examples include:
stock piling money, and have patience all summer until deals come around
knowing when to jump on a deal no matter if its your last 100 bucks and you wont eat for a week
working food service at the mountain so you get a free pass, and free food.
learning to love ketchup packets and hot water with saltines as a staple diet.


thats what i do, and so far just this seaon ive saved over $1500 on my gear.

example number 23423 : sell your gear on craigslist at an inflated price to morons that are too frivolous with their money to care that they aren't getting a good deal. 

only applies to people that live in a big city where the market is huge.

a little excessive dont you think? 3 pairs of skis? i mean shit, if you worked that much OT then you could have one sick set up, and have kept that extra 1000 dollars for the other two set ups.

dont get me wrong, not tryin to dog ya, cuz working OT sucks balls but makes you a grip. but did you at least get deals on some of this stuff?

I save money on overnight lodging at my hil  because my family owns like half the chalets on the mountain but it is very expensive.

at least 400 for skis

at least 200 for decent outerwear

100 for bindings

Boots are redic like 400 min
 
and then a one day lift ticket is averaging above 50 at most resorts.

1150 for your essential gear and one day of skiing.

i used to think skiing was expensive.  that is, until i got into downhilling.  i have a sponsorship deal with specialized which gives me mad deals, but i still just shelled out 4 gs for a new bike...  makes a $1000 ski set seem pretty reasonable...

i ahve to agree, this sport is ridiculously expensive.  but lets be realistic.  do you really need a brand new pair of 200 dollar pant, a brand new 300 dollar jacket, brand new goggles, gloves, all this shit every season.  fuck!  just be realistic, and buy what you need rather than what you want to look good in.

my brand new, thalls were 200, from getboards
my px12s were 100 from a online shop

my outerwear jacket is last years, 40 bucks
my outerwear pants are last years, 40 bucks
my 2nd outerwear setup is an orage one piece, 200 at TJmaxx

my boots are a few years old, $150

Gogg's 25 bucks at tjmaxx
Helmet will be 40 bucks at TJmaxx soon.

shit, the only thing i didn't buy that wasn't on sale was my damn ski pass at 500 bucks. If you find deals, you can lower your costs greatly.

i mean i dropped $550 bones for my outerwear last year. 

just dropped 700 on my new lizzies with look px 12's

might have to get new boots, but i'm planning on that for next year

Its affordable if you're smart about it and don't have to have the latest and greatest.

El-cheapo guide:

Go to you local ski shop at the end of the season and buy the end of season skis.. you'll save heaps and they'll give you a good discount cause it means they don't have to store old gear over the summer and then try sell it at the beginning of next season (I got new skis n bindings for less than the price of the ski doing this). Most of the skis don't change in any big way between seasons aside from graphics anyway.

Same with outwear, be smart and buy on sale, go for neutral earthy colours as they are pretty much always in fashion, whereas all the cool gear changes each season.

Buy quality gloves and goggles that will last you several seasons.

Only replace boots when they're shot, again, buy at the end of the season if you can.

Carpool to save on petrol.

Always take packed lunches .

Keep an eye out for good deals all the time.

Look after your gear so it lasts longer.

And, again, there are so many ways to save. Also, season passes are amazingly cheap if you break it down by the hour. Say you ski 100 days on a 500 dollar pass, less than a dollar an hour. Movies are way more expensive.

keepin all my stuff from last year cept a new helmet whcih ig to for 70$ at a ski swap...yeah my invaders are shot to shit and delaminating and i use them for urban but i could make em work instead of droppin 500$

Yeah, biking was an easy $5,500 for me this summer.  Ouch.  I'll probably spend at least $1,500 on skiing this year because I'm set up for boots and outerwear, I only need to mount a couple pairs of skis, buy one pair, and pay for a pass or two.

luckaly i pretty much bought everything last year  although i might bye somepark skis,maybe gogs and a helmet but yeah its a fricken expensive sport.But if u golf(which i dont much)thats a fuckin expensive sport,a year pass is crazy.

my boots are like 3-4 seasons old and the liners are ripped inside... need new boots...
i destroy skis... lots and lots of rails... destroy... i buy one pair every year or two... (thats not so bad)
i have worn my current pants and jacket for like 3 seasons.... there are ripps everywhere and they are falling apart.... need new coat and pants...
same applies to my goggles ( old ass spy's that are falling apart)

so yeah i dont just waste my money... i get full use of my stuff... (it usually has to break in some way for me to consider buying new)

so this year i need alot of crap cause perhaps ive waited too long on some things.... and its going to fucking kill me...

but ill get it anyway and suffer in other areas of life... cause im obsessed with skiing... so yeah...

ive bought skis boots and bindings and pants for like $600ish. everything kind of alligned this  year so i needed all that. I should be set for at least a few years. that doesnt include pass though.

ha! even the simplistic attitude is inflated...  Who the hell NEEDS 3 pairs of skis?  Im not trying to diss you so i hope it doesnt come off that way...

My point is this... when im going on a ski trip, and im packing, and i get to that point where im like, oh shit, what did i forget? All i say to myself is, "Ok, i have a pair of skis, boots, and poles, I'm good to go..." 

I finally bought some new outerware and boots after 3 years of $15 pants and a $35 jacket and $75 hand me down boots...
I bought new skis this year from a guy at Winter Park for $20

The only reason i even have most of my shit is because i work at a shop so shit is dirt cheap for me... but the fact is, i still know that I dont NEED it... the skis and boots mabey, beause they directly affect my skiing, but the outerware and shit, mostly a waste of money...

Disclaimer: Outerware maters a lot more if you live somewhere other than Colorado or Utah...

haha hells yea dude, wholesale on all the skis and bindings just not on all the clothing. shop jobs pay off, also knowing the right people helps. I moved out west and thats why i got 2 diff outfits, different temps and weather conditions.
