Shoot me a PM if you're interested on coaching freeride skiing. I have
it in the budget this year to hire at least one more coach, and it
could be you! Work with some up and coming talent, and have a great
time doing it. Benefits include: free season pass, 50% off food, 25%
off in Blue Mountain retail and rental shop, pro-form deals on
equipment, occasional swag, and lift line cutting privileges while the
program is in session.
Thanks.

Yah they were gonna do this at a couple mountains close to my school in VA last year and make me and my buddy the park ski coaches...but it never panned out. our mountains are so lazy. they were even gonna pay us to go get training at a more legit park so that we would be better teachers...total indian givers, i ended up quitting instructing cause school was so busy, but i kept my employee ID as a season pass

Ya a few of us have worked pretty hard to make this happen and I've put a lot into keeping it going. This will be our third year, we've grown every year, and I've learned a ton about running a program like this. With that in mind there are some changes I'm hoping to make this year that I feel will really benefit the quality of the program.
Don't give up if its something that you think has a chance of happening. This is been a really fun alternative to me just pitching and catching kids in ski school all weekend. I get to roll around with some kids who are really interested in progressing and are doing so at an extremely quick rate. I'd hope and expect that a few of these kids will be better than me in the park in the next two years. You can't expect to start a program like this and have the best riders in your program from the get go, you have to develop them. Use our program as an example and get something bumpin' at your own hill!

Legally the min. age is 16. However, I would prefer that coaches do have prior instructing experience, so by default this does make it a little hard for a 16 year old to be hired. It is more likely that someone 18 or above with previous instructing experience would be hired. In terms of fundamental skills the curriculum is loosely based on the PSIA/AASI Park and Pipe Handbook, which is relatively easy to become familiar with and utilize.
Hours wise, one is required to be there Saturday and Sundays from 10am to 2pm from mid-December until mid to late February (I still need to get the exact dates). How flexible I am with hours will depend on the number of athletes in the program this year. Last year I was able to run the program alone a few days while other coaches competed or traveled. I would prefer someone who is able to make the commitment for the entire season.

I'm interested. No instructing experience though. If you need someone, I got a dude who's been instructing at Boulder for 2-3 years and has been in the park for a long time now. Just let me know either way.
