why is it a miscalculattion....the wheels are on the tarmac, and im assuming it was an emergency landing at one of the crew's alternates.   That run way is not made for 747s anyways, so thats the only rational.

Bahaha.  If you look at the zoomed version there are people against the fence that are ducking/laying down.

why is the plane in crystal clear focus but everything else is really blurry. the simple answer would be that the photographer was focusing on the plane...but it looks fake to me. those people on the road would not want to be there by a landing 747. for serial.

Apparently the plane was on course, until a serious down-draft came out of nowhere.

The pilot had to spank the throttle, to avoid landing in the sand.

Thats St Maarten..  I have a timeshare a few hundred feet from there.  my son has grabbed onto that fence when a 747 is taking off and flown like a flag flapping in the breeze.  We have seen people blown right into the ocean.  Shit hurts because you get sandblasted.  fun times though..

not a misclac. it's just the runway. it's hella short. the place it's landing is called St.Maarten. It's a very small island

Not exactly a miscalculation but the pilot shouldn't be landing on the yellow chevrons, its part of the threshold. ( the part before the actual runway)

Agreed, but I've been working at the airport for years and it was just astounding to see how sketchy that is. I'm sure the pilot intended to land on that spot, but how could people be so close? That's the incredible part.
