Just got my '96 Tacoma. Last owner says passed the frame inspection with flying colors so im not very worried.
Dont feel like posting specs but its a 4cyl 5spd. lifted.

Well I'm breaking my own cult rules, as of now I am not a 4x4 yota owner. That is my baby all stripped down and headed back to the dealer. They inspected it this morning and promptly failed it.

whatever year I can get for around 5 grand or less. Might go with another late 80s or early 90s yota truck. I gotta do some looking around in the next few weeks.

btw no stock locker.. just have a few skid plates. probly not a real TRD but im putting in an aftermarket locker so np for me. its got manual locking hubs too... which are beastly.

t-minus 2 hours till I go to check out another yota truck.

93 xtra cab 4x4(of course) 6 cyl. 145,000 miles, with a new timing belt, clutch, and exhaust for 3,500. I hate looking at a car in the rain though.

STL how much did that flowmaster run ya. I'm in the market for exhaust. Gonna swap over to the manual locking hubs too as this thing has the junk autolocking shits.

There's the 6 cyl. 89 runner I just picked up. the second pic is the tire change in the rain last weekend, check out the front tire to see the 17's!!!! that came on this thing. I got rid of those shiny wheels with a quickness.

Looking to order some manual locking hubs online somewhere(probably warn), and pick up some new leafs for the back. Gotta find a way to get my old brush guard to fit, and I'd like to install a tow hitch as well.

There's body work in the future as I can stick my finger through the floor just under the pedals, but all in all the body is pretty good. The frame is good overall but the front and back have some cancer spots, the front skid plate is about to rust off.

woord those old 4runners with the hard/soft tops are sick

thise rims are the same ones that came with my taco when i bought it... theyre mad ugly and i just sold them for 700.
better be a 5spd btw...

and the flowmaster cost me 70 and 100 to install. i still have to put the tailpipe back on though so its not done.

oh and heres my taco after a good day in a few puddles

WOW I gotta quit hooking up friends. I'm selling the 17 to a buddy with an xterra for 200 bucks. They've got almost brand new bridgestone tires too. Maybe they won't fit and I can sell em somewhere else.

Im pretty sure the X has the same pattern but i think they have less back spacing.

Thats a real nice runner you got.  Since its a  3.0 has the head gasket been redone? 4Runners are so rare around here for some reason but then again everything cool is

Not sure on the head gasket, it is leaking a little out of both valve covers but that's about all it's dripping. Front frame crossmember is rusted so bad it won't pass inspection next year, I don't even know how I'm gonna mount my grill guard on there. It had a timing belt at 121k but currently has 268K and still running.

I'm definately nervous about running this thing on long trips up north but we'll see. I'm a little worried about sinking too much into it as well. Probably run it for a year and sell it, unless I end up buying a welder and doing some work on this thing myself.

You mean the very front crossmember that runs from one side of the frame to the other?

Mine was rotted out on my last pick up and i just welded in a piece of 2x2ish box tubing I had lying around.

It real wierd to see some of the reasons cars fail inspections in other states. I guess NY is just a little more lienient but  then again Alabama doesn't even have them.

New truck to replace the 4runner I didn't feel like fixing.

She's a 98 6 cyl 5 spd t100 w/108,000. Rhino lined bed, tonneoaueua cover, 4 inch trailmaster lift, toyo open country mts at 33 or so by 12.5. Tint on the front is gonna get me pulled over sooner or later I know it.

Ever heard of a car from NJ having a block heater???
New heavy duty clutch and timing belt was done at 60k. I already checked with original service stealership and they confirmed it had the steering rod recall done already.

It's fricken clean as a whistle.

10 large, a bit pricey but the upgrades are brand new so I thought it was worth it. Poor sap bought it to fix up as a toy and his wife got pregnant with their second child. Had to sell it to have a little more buffer in the bank. His loss my gain.

I've posted a lot of pictures of my old truck on here...

But that was recalled in June. Got $6780 for her. In April, I bought a 2001 V6 TRD with 150k on the clock for $8000. I swapped every possible part between the trucks and then stripped the old one. It limped into the dealer in June and I formally signed the title over to Toyota on July 16th. \

^Holy shit, I swear I've seen that truck in another forum somewhere. Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks incredibly familiar.

Anyway, I forgot to post photos last night and am back at work, so I only have pictures of one of my trucks:

1983 Pickup 5sp with a 3.4 swap, dual T-case with 4.7 gears (we have three shifters instead of one), custom bumpers/roll cage, front and rear air lockers, front and read 5.29 gears, King shocks, electric fan, 9500# Warn winch, 37" Boggers, custom solid front and rear axles, leaf springs, hydraulic steering, anddd a bunch of other shit that I can't think of right now because I'm completely out of it.

Beach buggy in action, hauled all eight of us back and forth from the campsite to the beach day and night last weekend. Many beers were drank while in the back of the truck while we were driving up and down the beach. Lots of fun but now I gotta hose the back as it smells of a funky mixture of beer, beach, and fish. Going back down in another two weeks also :)

I should have posted that in the truck on the mountain thread or whatever. Oh well! I love that picture... That's at Hatcher Pass. I'm getting those mountains tattooed on my back on Oct 24. :)

The beach trip looks so fun! I miss being able to do that on the beaches in Oregon. If you drive your truck out on the mud flats in AK, you're never seeing it again, haha. It's worse than being stuck in quick sand. Good luck getting the smell out! I'm sure that will probably take a while. Brown always smells like burning oil because the front dif has a tiny tiny oil leaks that goes right onto the exhaust.

Nice build Sarah! I've almost never heard of the 5VZ being swapped into a pickup...it's usually the 305 small block that goes in there. Truck looks sick though...it's got everything.

I'm on the forum TacomaWorld...have you seen the truck there perhaps?

Yeahhhhh, I'm very much against putting a Chevy motor into a Toyota body. What's the point in owning a Toyota if you're just going to gut it? That's a sin! The whole reason most people buy Toyotas is because their motors are unstoppable!

The 3.4 swaps are pretty common in Anchorage/Wasilla... I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with the fact that the guy who usually does them for people is more of a Toyota head than I am, haha. As I was telling Josh, there's a group of 20+ of us who all own Toyotas that are very heavily modified for off-roading (I'm talking like $20-50K in mods on top of the original cost of the truck). We plan wheeling trips a lot and go to a bunch of crazy places that nobody's ever been in trucks; just fourwheelers. It's killer. Our 5VZ-FE came from a '98 4Runner and is perfect for what we want.

I haven't ever been on Tacoma World, honestly. We've never owned a truck that was new enough to be called a Tacoma, haha. Ax and I go on the IH8MUD forums, though. So prime. Which truck are you talking about? Link me!

HA now I feel like an idiot because I realized what you were referring to. Sorry, I'm at work, and my phone's been blowing up... I'm a bit distracted. Hmm, did you happen to make a thread for a grill guard swap from one Taco to another on there? If so, that's probably where I saw it. My buddy and I were having a debate about Toyotas the other day (his mommy and daddy bought him 2003 Tundra and pay for all of the maintenance and mods... Ax and I prefer older pickups and do basically all of our own work, with the except of some of the major stuff on Brown), and he sent me a link to a thread that had a truck like yours.

Ha yup that's me. Gotta love the garage mods. I do most of my own work as well, except things that I don't have time for (torn rack boot) or can't do (alignment).

But that picture I just posted is the 2001 with the 96 front end on it. Now I have a TOYOTA decal on the tailgate as well (along with SR5 and V6 on the corners) so the truck looks pretty much like a 95.5-97, except it has push button 4wd and a rear locker.

Gotta rep the older style.
