This is more of a snowboad related question but what is the point of having approach skis? Wouldn't it be easer to just have snow shoes. Please educate me on why a market exists for approach skis.
hmm i dont know what those are but im guessing they are like cross contry skis?
couldnt you just put on a touring binding and put on those things that make your skis not slide instead?
To clear things up... I am not sure if they are really called approach skis. I was at this guys cabin about a month ago installing a hot water heater. He is big into snowboarding and telemarking. I noticed a pair of Karhus that were probably like 130mm and about 120 cm long with bindings that resembled a snowboard binding from wal mart but a little different. he said he uses it for bc snowboarding and just puts skins on the bottom. He called them approach skis. i dont get why you would do that, why not just use snow shoes?
at 120mm under foot and that short it is very much like a snow show. if he travels with skiers alot maybe he;d rather use those to work in their tracks as opposed to destroying theirs or having to cut his own every time.
