Im new to photography

ok so just got my camera, not that nice, but it works, so i get my pics on a disc, then upload the disk to my comp to adobe photoshop 3.0 starter edition to mess this the colors and stuff, but when i get into adobe, all i can figure out how to do is to like auto sharpen, and auto constrast the colors, how can i mess specifically with colors of parts of the picture? do i need something other than "starter edition"? thanks

That would require better software. You would need to upgrade from what you currently have

unless you are familiar with torrents and such, you will have to buy it. if you are attending a college/ university, or know someone who is, chances are you can get a decent discount. ( at the local college i can get cs2, $900, for $350 i got a downloaded version from my older brother, so i didnt pay a cent. that said, if you are just getting into photography you probly dont want cs 2 or 3, as they can be kinda complex. unfortunatly im not sure what the capabilities of your program are, so he best bet is to mess around with it until soemthing works

i found to learn the basics it was best to use photoshop elements, not if your advanced but if you want to learn the basics, i know have cs2 for the past year and a half and am loving it.

yeah, elements works well, makes it easy to transition to Cs2

but the thing is after about 2 months of element you get it and you want to advance up to cs2 becase you can do some much more in cs2

this is true, but you can usually find elements for like $50, so its not like its that much to start off on campared with the $600 you will soon spend on Cs2

if your still in school and they have element on your school comps then they have free learning editions of it that is basically the program that students can use at home, at least thats what my school does
