ok so just got my camera, not that nice, but it works, so i get my pics on a disc, then upload the disk to my comp to adobe photoshop 3.0 starter edition to mess this the colors and stuff, but when i get into adobe, all i can figure out how to do is to like auto sharpen, and auto constrast the colors, how can i mess specifically with colors of parts of the picture? do i need something other than "starter edition"? thanks

You need to find saturation, levels, curves, and unsharp mask.

First off i hope you are using film. Not harping on digital cameras but i love film so much more. Secondly my one piece of advice is just to fool around. Theres no set rulebook on taking pictures, everyone has their own style. Usually i dont fool around with the pictures I've taken, because i feel they lose their originality. The only time i use photoshop is if i want a hippopotamus jumping out of my mouth to kill a butterfly. Just fool around with filters and black and white and contrasts and shit. Good luck and keep shooting things.
