Thoughts on Vail

I don't know much about Vail, I know its in Colorado and that its big... My bro iz really pushing to go there for our 4-5 day trip, I was wondering what info I can get from some people that actually ski there?

Make sure you get a pass that allows you to ride all the resorts Vail owns.  Vail is fun for free riding but keystone is the place to go for park.  A couple years in a row i stayed in Breck and got a 4 day pass that was good at any Vail resort.....Breck, keystone, Vail, A basin, beaver creak

vail is huge                       in one day my friends and i skied hard with one short break,         and we could no ski all the lifts   and we did not ski more than 3 lifts twice...             


there is no way you will get bored there after a week,     GO TO VAIL  just not for park  in early april, over spring break the park sucked...   but why ski park if you have 5000 other acres to ski..

can never get the whole mountain down in the time your there
if your going to ski park id say the other mtns are better but vail is so huge you can find little jumps on every trail that are just so fun
it is definitly an ideal vacation spot if i could go again i would but this year im taking a trip to whistler/blackcomb

well vail is rated so high every year because it is one of the best
im not just saying this because i live here but i love it
it never gets boring because there is so much to do and so much terrain to do it on
park is great, cliffs and trees are everywhere
and if you happen to come on a powder day (which is likely)
it is sick and so many places to ski it
dont let everyone convince you that it sucks cause of all the rich people
most the skiers are locals who are far from rich and the rich tourists are just fun to piss off

It is a pretty fun mountain.  People talk a lot of shit because yes, the snow and terrain isn't as good as in some places.  But it is a huge mountain with lots of stashes, decent terrain, decent park, good nightlife.  It is a really sweet mountain if you ski the right areas and you can have a lot of fun there.  Worth checking out for sure.

When are you thinking of going?  Best snow is in late Feb to early/mid march.

vail is bomb if you know wats up! but it could be hard if your a noob? lift lines at different time, pow stashes, timing your day to get the most pow possable! ect... deffently a sick mtn

Vail is a really big and great mountain.  There is no reason not to spend a whole vacation there, its so big and theres so much to ski.  First off, you need to know where to go.  Your really gunna want to get into the back bowls as fast as possible.  Which means as soon as your day starts, get to the top of the mountain asap.  Then drop down the back of the mountain.  Theres 7 wide open breath takingly huge bowls.  They all end up at a lift at the bottom so don't worry about exploring.  Most of the time you need to traverse around one of the bowls to where no one is to get good snow.  I would spend a lot of your time in bowls like Sun Up, Sun Down, China, Tea Cup and Siberia.  Theres usually a lot of room and lift lines don't get too bad.  However if you stay in the front your gunna end up on super long lift lines.  The other are you should ski is Blue Sky.  Blue Sky is filled with a lot of trees.  Theres a lot of exploring to do and a lot of steep runs, cliffs, tree lines, etc.

If you wanna hit the park on golden peak I'd take like an afternoon or two to ski it.  Don't hit the park in the morning or it'll be prob real icey.  Personally I like to take some runs where I just hit all the jumps and others where I hike rails.  The park lift usually gets a long line.

I would definitly suggest you guys go to Vail.  As long as your willing to explore off the beaten path and stay away from the front of the mountain especially during the middle of they day you'll have a great time.

vails alright, blue sky and the back bowls are fun when there's fresh snow, though i'd probably avoid their park, it's gonna be shit this year, they lost the best member out of their park crew.

i skied vail 2 years ago. great variety of terrain out back, between the bowls and blue sky basin. there isnt much worth skiing on the front of the mountain, and the people are pretty annoying. it bothers me how every inch of the mountain is lift accessed and therefore heavily skied. even in the bowls you will find people who dont belong. look around you on a nice day, and there are people everywhere. its not exactly a backcountry escape. if you like the lift access, can put up with the people, and hit it on a good day, its worth the experience, but at $85 a lift ticket (probably more now) im in no hurry to go back considering all the other places to choose from out west.

Vail is sweet on a powder day!  If you go back to Blue Sky Basin take some hot dogs.  They have open grills up there where you can grill have a beer than ski again.  It's pretty cool, like high alpine grilling...lol.  The village if Vail is pretty sweet to party also.  If you go, get directions and go to West Vail where there is this bar, I forget the name (anyone know, correct me) it's next to the Gart Sports and Mc Donalds.  That place has a lot of girls there.  The George is pretty sweet also.

thanks for the info guys, well thaz the only problem i see is when to go: I'm still in HS so I can only go during my breaks and wen my bro has his breaks so that would be December 26th-Jan 1st or my other option would be Jan 17th-21st, so they are both pretty early in the season but from what I hear iz "hit or miss" with the snowfall, but if im gonna get sum powder days the chances are much better out west then on the east coast.

vail is awesome, it's HUGE, the bowls are sweet and it's great on a powder day

the park is just ok, keystone is better.

but you can ski west vail and east vail which are sick on powder days. plus there's blue sky basin etc.

Bro you want to hit up Prima Cornice and the Tree's on the Headwall below Prima off of Northwoods, there are infinite lines here, everything from super tight trees to sweet techy chutes, much of it seldom get's skied, though if is surrounded by Texan-infested groomers on all sides... also the BC off of Earl's bowl at Blue sky is pretty steezy, check out the sick pillow lines about 3/4 mile back along the main trail, provided the base in deep enough.... East Vail is of course the shit as well but don't go there without someone who know's the area well, Avy danger can be high...

Vail's flat and too many people are moving to Denver making it impossible to ski on the weekends w/o sitting in endless traffic and long lift lines.  Blue Sky & East Vail are the best spots...

Yup, still love it though. If you are there for a week you should get some good skiing in. I feel it can sort of be hit or miss in terms of getting fresh unless you are willing to sniff it out. Also, if you wanna ski park, maybe consider otherwise especially depending on when you go. I always like their park, but it seems like they always take a lot longer to get their park shaped compared to Keystone or Breck. Their priorities are just different, that is all.

Vail is great if you want to build your confidence.  you can say "yeah I skied the back bowls at Vail"  which are groomed bowls that are legit blues at every other resort.   It is huge and Blue sky Basin has some sick lines, but i've never been scared to ski something at Vail.  I guess i like a bit more of a challenge.  Go to A-Basin or Copper for some ass puckering lines, and definitely DO NOT ski at Vail on weekends.

You are a funny person.  The bowls are not groomed.  Blue Sky is not groomed.  There are some sweet lines all over Vail.   You can ski Vail on the weekends of you know where to ski.  You have to know the mountain.  A-Basin is not that scary at all.  Come on.  At A-Basin you have to hike to go anywhere good!
