Replying to South Puget Sound Kids.....Anyone feel that explosion????

iggyskier:
Holy shit.  I guess a factory just blew up in Tacoma.  I seriously almost got thrown from my bed from the shaking following it.

I guess it is still on fire, right off at I-5 by highway 16.

Crazy shit.

TACOMA -- Emergency crews are responding to a major explosion at the Atlas Foundry.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said officials began receiving 911 calls around 3 p.m. about the explosion, which shot a huge fireball some 500 feet up in the air.

People miles away from the foundry felt the shakes from the explosion, Fulghum said.

One witness at the scene told KOMO 4 News the explosion damaged left adjacent buildings within a five-mile radius of the foundry. Another caller said he heard the explosion while in Graham, Wash.

Emergency crews are responding to the scene. A man who answered the phone at the Tacoma Fire Department said there are possible injuries from the explosion.

The cause is not yet known.

The incident has triggered a road closure and several backups in the area. The southbound lanes of Interstate 5 are closed, just north of the exit to the westbound lanes of State Route 16. Northbound I-5 traffic is stopped at 38th Street and eastbound SR 16 traffic is stopped at Union Avenue.
