Some friends and I are planning a Ski vaca this winter and Whitefish came up in the discussion. Anyone have any thoughts or tips or anything to say about Whitefish. If you dont feel that Whitefish is coo or wouldnt be fun for some midwestern college kids to hit up durring winter break where do you think we should hit up. We have been to Breckenridge, Steamboat, and Jackson Hole already. Any thoughts would be coo, thanks.
i live 3 hours from there definately fun mountain. a little behind on their park with good shreds around the mountain. It is never crowded and if you hit it on a pow day it will be epic!
heck yeah man i'm from whitefish it's a fun town for sure (especially if you're twenty one)
"whitefish mountain resort" is always fun whether it's a powder day or just a mess around day. the park is definitely behind as someone said but you can ski the back side all day and never get bored. let me know if you end up going i'll be home in december and january.
Big Mountain (or Whitefish Mountain Resort if you're classy) is a fun place for sure. I LOVE the tree skiing there, but their park is probably not something worth traveling for. But back to the trees. They tend to get a lot of fog up there, which turns a lot of people off. However, if you're back in the woods the visibility is fine, there's no people, and it takes forever to get tracked up. I usually only make it up there a few days a year, but I'm always amazed at how much fun you can have with all the little hits, snow ghosts, and whatever else you find. Overall, I wouldn't say it's a "must ski" mountain, but you shouldn't be disappointed. If you're in that area also check out Fernie.
As a Big Mtn local, I would tell you that you will have a ball, and that they are supposed to be stepping their park game up a bit this year, though it may not come through. Regardless, there is always something fun to do at Big Mtn. Let me know when you come out.
I live in Whitefish and its a kickass town. Even though our ski resort is now under some deuchebag management, the mountain is awesome. We just got a brand new 6 man high speed chair installed, and hopefully our park is not gonna be as shitty as it was in previous years.
Definately go there, its worth checking out for sure. It does have some of the best tree skiing ever and alot of powder/cliffs/natural features/safe backcountry
I live near Whitefish.
Im pretty sure the park is going to be alot better this year too.
whitefish is dope. the town is super chill and theres a lot of good places to eat. As for the mountain, it kicks ass. you can't beat the powder when its good. the park this year is probably going to be better with jumps hopefully larger than 20 feet for once. but if you come up, don't come up for the park because the powder days are gonna be where the fun is at.
Thanks for the help guys. My friends and I wont be comin up for the park, we can ski some of that here. I was just wondering about the all-around mountain and it sounds sick. Pow is the only think I look for when we travel out west. Sounds like ill be headin out that way in Jan thanks.
Ight one more question. Where would you rather go Big Sky or Whitefish I have been to Big Sky twice a few years ago but never to Whitefish. Where should I check out?
Depends on what you're into. Big Sky has huge terrain, big lines, and once in a blue moon they'll have some good tables in the park. Big Mountain has ridiculously good tree skiing, lots of cliffs, and (in my opinion) better snow quality. It's also cheaper by a long shot.
i'm from whitefish, and i agree with all these guys that big mtn is ill, no matter what kind of day you get. but some friends (including dowalibeast) and I went up to Fernie this past winter and had two epic epic days. great powder, all day long, both days. but, i have heard that if there isn't pow, then because of the mountains orientation it gets really icy. so i would say hit up the big (mountain), where you're guaranteed to have a good time.
