I'm gonna try to, I'm thinking of checking out Joetsu Kokusai, Hakuba 47, and some places in Hokkaido I forget the names.

Let me know how Grand Hirafu is. I hear its getting pretty crowded these days. I was thinking about spending a season there, but it sounds like it gets tracked out a lot faster now and the scene seems kind of lame.

Where are you living? If you're on Honshu, I hear Hakuba in Nagano is fucking rad. They get a ton of snow but have a lot of resorts and good parks. I think I may live here.... I need to go skiing. This is nuts.

I'm staying with family till I find a place.  I'm so bummed I have to leave Colorado, it's been snowing up here almost every day for the past week with Abay and Loveland open already, shit's killin' me, but hopefully I'll find a good place to ride over there, and thanx for that snowjapan link too that helped alot.

Wow, I`m in Japan!  weird.  I`m staying in Kumamoto right now but I got a JR pass for two weeks to go and check out some resorts.  I plan on checkin out Hirafu and Niseko in Hokkaido, then head south to Joetsu and Hakuba.  If there are some other places you might suggest, I`d greatly appreciate it. domo arigato mr. roboto.

Rad, have an Asahi Brew for me... Super Dry's the only way to go. Oh, definitely stop into Yoshinoya and grab some Gyudon too.

If you are thinking about skiing Hakuba, the best place to stay is The Hakuba Powder lodge. It's run by a foreigner and they're all about the Gnar. I know that they are actually looking for another staff member right now, starting December 10th. If you're interested, I can shoot you the owner's email address. Free place to stay, meals and a pass plus pay as well.

If you're in any of the cities, I know Nagoya the best because I used to live and work there. I'll tell you some good watering holes and places to check out. I also know some cool spots in Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo.

Oh man, I think I`ve gained like ten pounds since I`ve been here. Everything tasted sooo fucking good!

I checked out a local snowboard shop, they told me a place called Teine has a sick pipe so I`m def gonna check that out and a place called Takasu Snowpark. I`ll check out Hakuba Pow Lodge too. 

What kinda job did U have over here?  I`m wondering what I could do since my Japaneese ain`t so good.

I was working for GABA, an English conversation school. I couldn't speak any Japanese at all but it didn't matter. They were hiring when we showed up and my friend got a job even though he didn't have a degree of any sorts. The pay was good and we could pick our own hours. It was a really good setup because we were saving to travel Asia and were able to work as much as we wanted. There is bad news though. Nova, the biggest conversation school in Japan, is having major financial troubles. They have been essentially stealing their employee's pay checks and people living in Nova sponsored housing have been evicted despite paying for the housing through Nova. The market is being flooded with English teachers and could get even worse if the company disappears. It's a bad time to look for English teaching work in Japan because a lot of qualified and experienced teachers are out there looking right now. If you're looking for a job, try to hook up GABA. I will email a friend of mine who runs a GABA school and see if he knows if anyone is hiring. Pay was Y2200/hr I think.

What are you doing over there? Studying?

I miss waking up and living somewhere completely crazy. I can't wait for this winter though, I am headed to Switzerland to ski! More traveling and living abroad!

2200yen a hour!!! thats prettu darn good. I might work there sometime too, and i can speak japanese fluently. Just like two months for summer, and there are indoor ski resorts things i can ski at sometimes tooo

Man, I wish I could speak more than ten words of Japanese. It would help getting Japanese girls.
It seems the super, ridiculously hot ones could never speak English or wanted nothing to do with white guys.

thanx again for the info, I`ll have to look into that GABA. It kinda sucks not being able to speak to anyone in English. 

I`m here on family bisinness, I`ve been living in Breck for the past ten years so I thought it was time for a change.  this is a pretty big change.  It`s still weird waking up here, I still feel like I`m in a dream I can`t wake up from.

If you want to go to meet girls who like foreigners, go to foreigner bars. Most of these are populated by socially awkward morons and haggard Japanese girls who are into white guys. This works, but its not your best option.

What city are you in? My friends and I are talking about doing the 08/09 ski season in Japan. That would be pretty epic!!!

thanx for the heads up, I`ll try to stay away from those.

I`m in Kumamoto right now but I`m leaving for Niseko on the 16th, skiing there for a few days then moving on to Joetsu Kokusai, then going to Hakuba.  I wanted to go check out Takasu in Gifu also but you can only get there by car or bus.  I`m looking into maybe working in a place in Sapporo run by some Australian guy who`s looking for English speaking employees but I`m not really sure yet till I check out the scene.  I`m not sure how winters are up in Hokkaido but I hear they can get pretty intense.  They are getting hammered right now.

I`d totally be into hooking up for next season.  As of now I`m pretty flexable so lemme know what your plans are and maybe I can hook up a place to rent out for a season.

OMFG!  I just skied Niseko, first day of the season, and it was fucking epic.  The pow was unbelievable.  After skiing, I ate a big bowl of hot rice with fresh crab and Salmon roe on top that was so fucking good I almost blew my load. Then I soaked in the onsen at the hotel and just got out.  I`m in heaven!

nonexistent.  just a couple rails and an oil can jib on the grand hirafu side, but the pow keeps coming, too bad I have to leave.  on to Joetsu tomorrow

Keep us updated!! A few Kirin Ichibans in the onsen after a day of riding pow sounds pretty damn good.

That sounds epic dude. I'm going to start looking at my summer plans and then my 0809 ski season. I want to work in Japan again but I am not sure I can get another working holiday visa. I'll jump over in December sometime. A friend of mine is going to try to come over too. We should look at getting an apartment around Grand Hirafu or Hakuba if you're still going to be around. I'm off to Costa Rica tomorrow and then flying from there to Laax, Switzerland, for the ski season.

I just got back a few days ago from Hakuba and finally got to ride some "park".  The features were still tiny but it was fun.  There was one kid on the Line team tearin it up.  They`re getting pounded on right now.  1M of snow predicted.  Niseko was sick. I really didn`t expect that kinda pow up there already.  Joetsu sucked balls, only 9 trails open, mad amounts of peeps over the weekend, 4000 yen lift ticket, it even rained on the last day I was there, didn`t even bother to ski. 
Yeah a season up around Niseko would be sick.  I`m def looking into that next yr.
Damn dude Costa Rica to Switz sounds sick. Hope that goes well. Hope to see you guys up here next yr. Keep in touch till then.

Hey guys, I'm in Switzerland now. It's great. We got a bunch of snow shortly after I arrived. I dislocated my shoulder the day before the storm so I missed out! It is a lot of fun here, definitely an interesting scene. I'm back skiing after only missing two days, I'm taking it fairly easy, just skiing groomers until I feel 100% again. It's great being able to ski everyday on varied terrain. You can work on many different aspects of your skiing. Plus, it is sick gnar!!

I plan to be here all season, until late April.

I had my first pow turns of the season today. It was pretty deep in parts and a ton of fun. There's still a ton of snow left from the storm last week if you're willing to traverse a little bit. There were some cliffs too but I wasn't feeling quite ready to hit anything to gnar... It hasn't even been a week yet since I blew out the shoulder. Oh yeah, my new JJs are a really sick ski and fun in pow! They're pretty good on groomers too, they hold up really well and can fucking charge. I can't butter or jib with them. Too heavy and stiff.

.... just got back from japan, not skiing though, but certainly plan to get over there next year for the pow, just reading through what you all are suggesting its a good heads up on where to go. Thanks. Japan is just so incredible absolutely love the place, **# i think im turning japanese i think i turning japanese i really think soooooooooo.

Ahhh, well, flight prices jumped up about $500 so I think I'm going to stick around Banff. I'm going to head down to Montana a bit in January instead!
