My renewed faith in the world and facebook

On Saturday night (or Sunday morning) at approximately 12:40am I was returning home on the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) on the subway. Ironically I wasn't at all drunk but I still made a stupid mistake that usually happens when people are under the influence.
This morning I woke up to go to school and was unable to find my wallet so I retraced my steps and realized that I had not seen my wallet since I took a TTC ticket out of it on Saturday night. Immediately my mind began to imagine that it was probably in the hands of a theif because I have generally lost faith in the goodness of most strangers due to the image the media portrays of the city and the world in general.
By the way, my wallet also contained my G1, health card (apparently a bitch to replace), some CA$H money, coupons, gift certificates, and my debit card.
I arrived home today and called the TTC lost & found only to be told that nothing had showed up yet. I reluctantly returned to my room and started checking the usual sites on the internet; facebook being one of them.
When I opened up facebook and checked the new message that I had I was shoked and amazed to see this:
Hay Colin ,
Can ' t tell by your profile picture if it is you but if you lost your wallet drop me a line ( found on the subway )
Damian
I just sent him a message back and I decided to write this on here cause it has definitely cheered me up. I am also reminded of how my friend lost his cellphone the same way a couple of weeks ago and was lucky enough for it to be returned to the TTC lost & found.
I think two things come out of this. I have realized that you definetly cannot judge a book by its cover nor a city by its media (corny i know) and that guy is going to get a hell load of karma coming his way.

that is wicked for that guy. not many people would do it... i found one of those walkie talkie radio things at a ski hill. i was tempted to keep it since i had the same one at home. but i called over it, found the family with the matching one and gave it back

i thought about that but it would kind of defeat the purpose. in an ideal world we should all be that nice but there are just so many people out there that are a bit too selfish for that concept.

I dunno how it would defeat the purpose? I would have still given him 10 bucks just as a nice gesture in return.

Thats really nice of the guy. Don't give him any money back though. It would just ruin the whole point of the good deed. But a thankyou card and a small gift like chocolates would be very appropriate

if some dude found my wallet and i had all that shit in there, id give him like $20 just cause he saved you so much work/worrying/time. and to you guys that say dont give him money, wtf? why not he deserves. not gonna lie, if i found a wallet id take the money and then return it to some lost and found or something...

i would give the dude the money. Its worth it for the pain in the ass it would be to replace all the stuff. If somebody gave me a thank you cards and chocolates i would be scarred.

Ya man you should, I mean if he went through all that work to return your wallet, the least you could do is throw him a 10.

i know a guy who has left the same phone three times in a cab here in new york city. hes a bigtime business man and he has all his important business contacts in his phone and all three times someone picked it up and called numbers to find out whose phone it was and he got it back. the other night my roommate came home in a cab, left his phone in the cab so i called it and the cabby called me back from his from when he got home and met my roommate the next day to return his phone to him. now thats some shit because it is so easy to flip electronics like that in the city here.
All times are Eastern (-5)
