I ALMOST bought a tele last week but i went with a hollow body ibanez awd83 instead im pretty happy with it, but im still in love with telecasters they sound great and i love the simple look
If you don't like it, don't get it, or get a different neck on ebay. Warmoth makes some pretty damn good necks for reasonable prices, or just get a strat. done and done.
you have to be joking...a telecaster vs. an ibanez? neck pickup useless? do you know anything about telecasters? seriously, i'm not trying to be insulting, but telecasters are some of the most solid, reliable guitars you can buy (squire models excluded). they can produce some awesome tones.
to the actual thread creator...that looks like an american deluxe or something along those lines. I actually prefer the old style w/ ashtray bridge with that kind of bridge pickup...it's got that quintessential tele sound to it. and the arched neck isn't that unusual. My guitar is a '72 strat, and its neck is arched. one tip: the "highway one" teles are awesome for their price...around 700ish, and they are made in america and have upgraded pickups. check that out.
i suppose...if your budget is under 500 dollars, then you should look at something other than teles. you might be able to find a good used tele for that though. for sure you could get something like an epiphone dot or an ibanez artcore series if you are into semi-hollow.
