History of new-school?

I don't know if others have though about this, but I don't know much about how the sport has progressed in the last 5 or 6 years or so.

Does anyone have something on the way the sport has progressed? Like who threw the first, say, mistys and where? Maybe a timeline sort of thing? I reckon that'd be cool to have.

Actually just on the misty thing, I was speaking to someone who was saying something like Mike Douglas threw the first one in 1998 or so and then Cusson came along and threw in a grab 3 weeks later. I think that's right... (?)

Still I guess you get an idea from watching the movies. :)

i remember an old freeze talkin about that, and jf won a constest because of it. im pretty sure mistys have been around since the old hot dogging days. the whole New Canadian Air Force started the whole newschool movement. and people just caught on from there and progressed the sport like crazy

i am not sure when did this 'new school' thing really happen and started by who. every older new school skiers claim to have done it a lot longer before the new canadian air force's members did. what really triggered this movenment was the new canadian air force, and the promotion by jonny mosley(snowboarding and the introduction of the 'snowboard park' also started it too). he really show cased it to people through he mogul run in the olympic(the nagano one...if i remembered it right). after a few yrs mike D and NCAF made the 1080, well you know the rest after that.

as for misty wise, it's been done back in the old hot dog days

these are just my opinon and what i think, so go ahead to correct me if i am wrong.

douglas was the first really good newschooler. the sport hasn't been around for real long. 6 years at the max. twin tips are fairly new

the most pregression has taken place in the last 3 years dood.. look at a movie like balance (level 1) and then look at strike 3 (level 1) and see the difference in the style of riding... everything now is sooo much smoother and steezed out to the max then hucked tricks used to be back in the dizzay

Douglas threw the first misty on the windlip in whistler. I saw it in an old movie. That's pretty much where it all began.

The poachers had to be the single softest ski ever. And JF landed the misty before Mike D. Mike said it himself. Go watch Greg Stumps 'A Fistfull of Moguls' that is how new school really started. Mogul skiers hitting parks and kickers trying new tricks. Yes hotdoggers did a lot of newschool moves a long time ago but nothing like what it was back in the late 90s. Pretty much new school as it is known today was started during the 96/97 season...for the progression just look at what has won the US open. First year it was a run full of 3 mutes, then it lead to the switch back now its like switch 1080 grabs.

DEGENERATES!!! thats what i was tryin to remember. mike d does a lil interview in their that kinda explains the misty. such a sick ass movie. shows tanner when he was just a lil camper at whistler goin huge. and mike d does the littlest lincoln ive ever seen off the whistler table. that movie was revolutionary to me

There was some progression rocking in Wisconsin back in 97-98 as well. Misties, D-Spins-or Honkey Flips as we called them. Liu Kangs, reverse grabs, handplants in halfpipes, inside tail grabs as are known today. Lot's of goodness sparked from mogul skiing (non-competitive, we were disqualified for grabs) and rollerblading. Cascade Posse and Midwest All-Stars represent. Claiming gang monkiers before thug was hip. Ha! Saw State of Mind middle of that winter, knew the Canucks had the right idea too and went to the first ever High North ski camp that we fpound advertised on the ol' Freeze forum. Session One: six campers. Shit has gotten so outta control now, it's great. And Olin did invent the true first twin in the 70's. The Poacher came out the year of the El Caminos.....96-97? But yeah, unbelievably soft and short. Thinking on the right track though...with the help of Ostness I believe? man, I remember riding the lifts with people and they would ask if our skis really worked in the pipe. Hahahaha. Stoked to be here since the beginning,
