Vista not compatible

I have a sony vx2100 right, and i have sony vegas.  I bought a external hard drive and all the adapters n shit for my firewire cable.  I plug it in, and my computer doesnt recognize it.  Does anyone else have problems hooking up the sony vx2100 to vista? and is sony vegas vista compatible?

o thanks man, does anyone no how to run a dual operating system? i wouldnt want XP, i have been with vista to long, its just way to sexy.  has anyone ran both?
