Mounting FKS on fat skis

So here's the deal, I have a pair of 109mm waisted skis (ninthward tha187s) and a pair of rossi FKS 185 freerides I need mounted on them. My local shop has the jig to mount FKS, but it won't even come close to fitting over the top of 109mm waisted skis. The brakes on the bindings might need a little bending but no worries there, that's easy. I'm just wondering how I can possibly get these bindings mounted if no FKS jig exists that can fit over these skis (don't want to do it myself, too risky).

Is there anything I can recommend the ski tech to do to get these mounted?

but will a tech even do that?

Last time I got a pair of skis mounted they refused to bend the brakes and I had to do it myself.. I can only imagine what he's going to do if I tell him to mount using a paper jig.

They do make the jigs now to accommodate the wider skis,  ask them if they are going to get one

i have mounted fks to lizzies live lifes maidens and hellbents

i eventuall just bent my shop jig other than thay you just have to measure and measure again and check twice them measure again!

royal pain in the ass!

if you live in utah i can do it!

Man I didnt even know they would do that. If they call themselves a ski shop they should have the equipment to mount today's skis. Go somewhere else.

What shop are you referring to? I cant find anywhere around here (Sudbury) to mount FKS

here is what you do.
go to a legit race shop that has been doing their thing for about 20 years. ask if they have an old derbyflex jig. that jig will spread out to 150. then piggy back the fks jig on top of it. then have a steady hand.

or you could just straight up freehand it, thats what i did on my ant's that are 109.

you have to go to a shop that does freehand mounts... some do, some dont. otherwise do it yourself.

Im in kingston, Ontario so most shops don't even have skis this fat in their shop. It seems like a freehand mount with paper template will work if the tech will do it

sean what do you need an FKS 185 for?

your din level can't be more than a 6. you're looking to blow out your knee with a binding that big. sell them and go for something like a 120 or 155.

oh yeah, even if you find a shop that can mount them, they probably wont because of the din setting.

ik there not as big but my shop mounted my 185 freerides on my ARVs no prob, ik you have 14mm more with then me but it shouldnt be that hard for em

I have an old jig that doesn't fit fatties. I just put the jig on top. Make sure its straight, and letter rip. Haven't fucked a pair up yet and I've probably done 10

Put the jig over the ski, where you would want it, center it. Drop a sharipe or some type of writing implement and mark all the holes.

Make sure the techie is good, have him freehand. It's what I did on my Bacons. Worked just fine.

Yeah, I did that on a pair of Seths, with a few clamps and a hell of a lot of duct tape to try to keep it still. As long as you mark and measure before drilling, you can always do it again.

Anyway, your shop guy must not have much confidence if he wasn't prepared to do it. Find someone else, who has been doing it for a while.

And whoever said they wouldn't mount because of the DIN, you can always sign a disclaimer. Or even slip the guy some bucks yourself and it's not even going through the shop. Just don't go back if you fuck your knee. At the shop I'm at just now the customer can just write the DIN they want on their form if they want something non-standard and sign their ACLs away.

its basically a clamp with hole patterns for different bindings (dif jigs=dif bindings). you clamp it on the ski, drill the specific holes (they are built into the jig) and then mount. the problem with some fat skis is the clamp isnt wide enough to go over the ski, which makes it harder to get accurate holes. hope that helped

free hand on an FKS is pretty easy. ive done quite a few in my day. Otherewise that guy is right put the Salomon derby jib on the ski its designed to open really wide then its designed so anyother jig will attach on to it and it works fine. but theres lots of ways. theres just no way to get the FKS jig on unless your shop got the limited production one last year when the produced the P18 Wide which made them make a wide FKS jig.
