he CAN do a better job. In 2 hours at esc he pretty much made the best rail set up edmonton has seen since rabbit had warren. 
and if you think someone wold actually apply to work at valley on the weekends then go to lake louise, COP or even rabbit where a half decent bunch of rails or jumps are... think again.

I'm not begin serious wiht my apparent RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... i am just sying that in general snow valley is so horrible i wanan cry.. something not many people can dispute. And the chances that a new manager will make a difference are pretty slim since ive heard stuff like this 30 times before... but who knows hopefully i can be prouved wrong cuz it would be a nice change. 

I mean like... first off they dont even have their rails ever set up and if they do the set ups are not good.  and the jumps....   not that you can call em jumps have have no kic whatsoever and DEFENITELY NO LANDINGS EVER.  if you overshoot oyu od not notice the difference in grade... 

I would be SOOO down to even volunteer to make the park and give my 2 cents if I though it would make a difference but they are so stuck up they would not listen... and even if they did "insurance issues" would dictate what and the WAY they can build their features, besides they get so many people goign there that 30 more park riders would not make a difference to them..

none of this has anything to do with you... just that anyting related to snowvalley usually ends in a pathetic disaster.

and MAN could I EVER do a better job but 1: i Idont have time I go to school and 2: It would not change shit cuz at the end it comes down to the shitty cat driver who thinks landings should almost be pointed uphill and to the snowboardes who like ride ons..

the days of valleys park crew being comprised totally of stuck up snow boarders are the ways of the past, the crew is now me, one of my best friends alex and unfortunatly his girlfriend. If you have something to say in the the ways of a idea or a thought to make things better for us skiers you better believe that if you tell me im gona listen, that go's the same to every edmonton skier out there that reads this. That said if im working the park and some 12 year old comes up to me and tells me how to build shit and clearly has no idea what he's talking about im gona tell you where to stick your idea.

valleys gona be getting better, if it doesnt il probably quit my job in frustration.

Here's a real tip. Build mini tables for all the rails so that there is a landing for them and not a kicker and then flat. Somehow in all 35 feet of vertical, make it so that you can hit 4 or 5 rails in a row. AWESOME!

We know that, thats why were trying to get operations to blow a bit more snow into the medow area so that se can build a proper rail line.

allright to make it clear for you guys, the present park crew has only been in for the last month of last season and now this season, but we are by no means newbs to the concepts of building a terain park. Yes i know that rails lines are sweet, I also know that building a "mini-table" to put the rails on no only helps for the take off and the landing but it also makes it look really cool.

Now for what you guys dont know, judging by how you continue to think I know nothing about this you think im either a idiot or a newb or both, thats what id call a mistake on your part.
Also you guys clearly dont know that the rail legs or suports on some of the rails are very long, like 4 feet long, so to get enough snow to build a mini table that will be big enough to have the suports would take alot of doing and bitching on my part, it would also take snow away from other things. 
Also you dont know that the head of the park crew is still a boarder, and alltho hes one of my best friends and therefor i can slap him around and tell him that we need to build things differently he untimatly has the power to tell me no and build things his way.

You guys should have figured out by now that the park is not one of snow valleys primary concerns, so any kind of change is like pulling teeth. It took all summer of talks and a 3 hour meeting with managment a month ago to get what funds we did get. Also the main reason for the lack of money is because we are trying to get the funds together to do a park expansion. It was spose to take place this summer and be ready for this season but the costs sky-rocketed and it had to be postponed

That said we do have some money to play around with, so if anyone has a thought or comment on something they would like to see in the park, like a rail or a different feature that they like please let me know.

 also Id like to appologise to the guy that i basicly told off after he gave me his thought, i had just got back from having a argument with operations about some placements of features and I was a bit irratable, so sorry bro

this is actually really funny somebody acctually offers advice and he get's flamed by the guy he's trying to help.  Nice move there ass hole.  What probably would have saved you some time and hate would have been to not act like a douche and simply say "ya that's what we're planning on" or "Thanks we're hoping to get that going this year"

I don't even know why I bother with NS anymore as I'm damn near 55....

Anyways... you make it sound like it will cost 2000 bucks and require 100's of man hours to cover legs that are... wait for it.... 4 FEET BIG!!! hahahaha. It takes hardly any time and only a small amount more snow to do what it takes. I applaud your enthusiasm to make a better park but I learned long agao if the hill doesn't give a shit well the hill doesn't give a shit. End of story.
Quit and go skiing!
Oh and I know nothing of jump building or rail placement. I'm all about fronting all the right gear and posing in the park saying "yeah dude" whenever something steezy gets tossed. Or I like to make perfect turns on the groomed runs and complain that parks take up too much of my sweet fresh groomed cord.
God I need to go skiing...

i understand what your saying, and I understand that many people dont understand what it takes to get such a feature set up, so heres what it takes. The ammount of snow that it takes to properly install something like the olive battle ship middle sections takes a snow depth of aprox 3 feet, then the rail is about 4 feet more out of the ground after that. Oviously we cant have a rail that is simply 7 feet tall because the only snow used to put it in is around the legs, so we have to build a table of snow to properly accomidate it. Last year we used a roller that from the dirt up was about 5 feet deep by 15 feet wide by 24 feet long. Thats 24x15x5, thats 1800 cubic feet of snow, thats 50 970L of snow that we have to make to propery install the rail. Under perfect snow making conditions that is aprox. 40 minutes of time put in just to blow the snow. To make snow costaprox $0.025/L (last time I had a rough estimate given to me), so thats $1269.75 alone just for the snow. Then theres the cat time to get the snow to the place that we cant it, so lets say that takes about 20 mins. To operate a cat costs around 500/h, so thats another 100 bucks. Then we have to get the feature to the location, so in the case of the olive bar we just got 4 guys and used straight man power to get it up the hill, dig the holes for the legs, build the kicker, re-attach the inserts, rake the landing, and actually install the rail into the ground. Only 3 of those guys were getting paid at the time so and all of that took about 3 hours when all was said and done. So thats another 100 bucks added to the tab.

So cash wish to get that single feature in it took 4h and $1469.75, all of that is under best case senarios that we were lucky enough to have last season.

 Im not trying to make myself or any of our park crew sound like gods, or the end all of the hill, but for some of you guys who think that park crew is all fun and games, in the future think about all the time spent getting those features ready for you to ride.

hmm... just a thought, but how come the supports to the rails aren't made like up side down T's? You could lower the snow depth required to install the rails, since the load would be more evenly distributed, and the over all structure would be much more stable.

if your asking if we can dig it into the dirt, then the answer is that we could. But if we did that then the park would never change, it would have to stay the same threw out the entire season. Thats one of the things we are trying to change, because the privous crew didnt change things much, which kept people unhappy.

As for the T bottem idea, yes its possible, yes there are many resorts that do use that method, no i do not see use adopting it any time soon. by keeping the legs of a rail straight we are making it easyer to install and remove features. If we used the T method we would have to dig bigger holes to get the rails in, which would mean that the rail has to sit longer in order for the snow to set. The methods that we are planning on using this season will allow for weakly or bi-weekly park build nights where we close the park early and do a nice overhall, re-shaping the lips on all or most of the features, installing new features, changing existing features, ex........... That way we can try to keep the park changing so that people can have a better time when they ride the park on a regular basis.

and who the fuck are you? Iv spent all of last season and half the season befor doing work in the park on a volenter basis, learning what I could befor I was offered the position, also I have spent all of the time from when valley closed last season to now researching things on the internet, contacting people at other parks in bc and alberta asking about how they build their parks, hours drawing features and figuring out lay outs to help create lines out of the limited vertical that we have, over a week going all over edmonton and area tracking down the cheepest steel distrubitors, finding good welders that I can out source some of the welding too, tracking down afforadable puck board supplyers, talking to the marking director about possible olive features for up coming seasons, leaving town and taking time off class to go work in the mountians to help pick up differnt ways and techniques to build features, blown off more then one date because I was at snow valley with alex and kristin(the other park crew members) trying to aquire more money and talk about possible sponsers for the park, sept several days going all over edmoton seeing what places would be interested in sponsering a rail jam and to contuine sponsering our big air comp, spent 3 weeks prior to said comp staying at the hill untill 1 in the mornign trying to get the kicker to be just right, and spent countless unpaid hours working on retro-fitting some of our present features to make them better for you the public to ride,

so what the fuck have you done that is so great the you get to judge my ability?

Buddy just stop... park crew really isn't that hard, ya it involves some work but try to keep in mind that it is a job.  And moving rails with the T supports is surprisingly easy.  At the momentum glacier we moved them easily and they didn't have to set seeing as when you slide a rail the pressure doesn't go towards uprooting the rail, it goes towards pushing it into the ground.  so unless the kids at your hill spen their day running into the rail and pulling up on it it really shouldn't matter
