Or you can get FKS 155's, which are better bindings from proctorjones.com for the same price with the newschoolers discount.

Not completely true. fks 155 don't have vertical release and are less practical for alot of park skiers who don't need a 15 din. Vertical release is alot more beneficial for a park skier than unneccessary extra din

newschoolers but it stopped working last night.
The vertical release is annoying, they took it out of their race skis because it causes prereleases and other problems. And saying "you don't need" a 15 din binding is saying that you ride at a din lower than 5 which is the lower limit for the din. If you're riding at a din of 5 your probably wouldn't be looking at FKS's in the first place. And the metal construction is soo much more solid than the 120's. And if you're saying that the metal makes them too heavy then you're a pussy or way to light to be looking at race stock bindings in the first place. /end rant.

din doesn't work by highest/lowest number so saying you're riding below 5 is ridiculous. The truest release on a 155 will be 8-12 and the truest release on a 120 will be 6-10. If your not a heavy kid (like many kids) 6-10 is a more optimal din range. In addition the benefits of vertical release for a park skier often make an 8 on 120s a better choice than an 8 on 155's. sure 155s are the obvious burly choice for racers (like you mentioned) and big mt riders but there deff are benefits to the 120 for lighterweight park skiers.

But what would a lightweight skier be needing an FKS for in the first place? If you're riding at 8 you're probably fine with a shitty consumer binding anyway. And "truest release"? I'll agree that a binding that's maxed out probably won't be the best, but I'm sure that an FKS 155 will release at the same amount of pressure as a 120 will. And I'm still against vertical release. Vertical release is not friendly for switch landings.

It's EXTREMELY friendly with switch landings. Because if you land wrong switch (Jon Lafferty, ski P.I.G.) you can be seriously fucked.

But if you land right switch you're also seriously fucked. And it's annoying having to kick your bindings ever other time you crash. And I love arguing.

I've never heard of pre-releasing switch with 120s...

panzieman, i dont know if the bindings you rode are just beat, or what, but...
the ability for vertical release does not inherently cause prerelease. i've ridden look jibs for the past 3 years, and can probably count the number of times on one hand where my ski came off when i wouldnt have wanted it to. and just because you dont ride at a super high DIN does not mean someone wouldnt want a sturdy binding like the FKS. durable binding and high DIN dont go hand in hand necessarily.

a lightweight skier needs fks for the same reason as a heavy rider. they own. they're bombproof and have excellent release. Alot of light riders charge just as hard heavy skiers an like good shit they can trust. I've never had to kick my binding "every other time" i fall. Its happened twice and both times i know i probably would have fucked up my knee cause it was such an odd release angle. If your having issues with prerelease you should probably have your forward pressure checked cause i doubt its the vertical release
All times are Eastern (-5)
