so i live in pa and it sucks. i get to go out west and ski a few weeks out of the year but when im not and stuck skiing in pa i get bored, especially with the park being mounds of shapeless shitty shits overrun with "weekend warriors" and parents taking their kids down an easy run on the... difficult side of the "mountain", so im thinking about getting telemark skis to play around with, any ideas? i tried a pair out once and it was fun but other than a few names i dont know much, so i come to you ns, enlighten me

your description sounds exactly like blue mountain! i feel your pain... the way i see it, you just need to incorporate the weekend warriors as new features to jib in the park, kinda like the 720 little girl head bonk video that went around NS last winter. makes ya get creative out there.

haha, I ski Blue most of the time too. I hate how crowded it gets, and the snow gets shitty real fast. Was anyone else there last year when they only had man made snow, so when you were going down the trail, there was green grass on the side? That was a bad day.

just go to Big Boulder and avoid the crowds at Blue.

I havent been to big boulder in a at least 6 years. I heard rumors that they built up their park, but the place is fairly small.

i dont know if telmark skis would be that fun. Telmark skis weakest area is on hard packed and in the park. Thats all you really have.

i cant speak for park, but i can rip ice and hardpack on teles just as well as alpine.

Its probly cuz i suck but i didnt have very much fun when i rode teles on ice. I just didnt feel that same amount of precision and powder u get with alpine. Pow and getting around backcountry is a different story though. Also if they are just as good as alpine on ice then how come u dont see anybody racing with tele gear?

there is telemark racing, and they are just as fun in the park as alpines are. i have never had any problems holding an edge anywhere. i actually feel like i have better edge control on them than i did on alpines.

It is what it is, at least in the poconos there is a lot of variety of small mountains. Seriously though I try to leave PA to ski as often as possible. Try Vermont it's only about 5 or 6 hours drive, I did MRG in one day once cause i was so pissed at local conditions.

Tele is wicked fun. Try it, you'll figure it out soon enough, you're either a tele skier or your not.
