dope camera. for similar features and price, you could get a dvx which is more skiing friendly. the xl2 is sick though, multiple frame rates, interchangable lenses, true widescreen and a shitload of manual control
i would take the xl2 over the dvx, yeah it is big but just deal with it, the big ski movie companies use cameras way heavier and they turn out awesome. i would never sacrafice the picture quality just so i can be lazy. and ive never seen xl2 skiing footage, i bet it would look awesome. plus everyone uses a dvx.
Its a great camera that will last a long time. Plus you have many options with lens that are only better than what you can imagine. If its for your skating, its fine. I would just go with a VX2100 or something along that lines. Plus a VX2100 is much more compatible (meaning can be used easier) with great quality film. But then again if you shoot in 24fps the footage will be a 1000 times better.
So how many of you have actually used the xl2? And jwenz, 24p doesn't mean shit if you can't hold a camera still. You have to have skill to get quality from ANY camera. I mean look at berman's older movies. He used a vx1k for a while then a pd150 (vx2000) now an fx1. He's gotten better along with his camera's. He started small and worked his way up. If you've never used a camera like that before you will be utterly perplexed when you get it.
Ive shot it, and dont like it.
The replaceable lense system is cool, and you can get good colors better, however for the price.... i think its overrated. DVX is equally good and in my opinion better, and apx 1000 less.
