Skiing one pole?

i skied with only one pole for a few day after i tore A ligament in my thumb. it only lasted a few days cause it was super wierd and no poles works better

If your talking like that, why is everyone always talking about less poles. Why not 3 poles? Or, you could have ginormous poles. Think BIG.

haha man, back about 3 years ago when my school had the grd.7 ski thing, me and a couple of the better skiers in the class had this old guy as our instructor. I bent the shit outta my pole and tried to bend it back and it snapped, so the old guy showed me how to ski with one pole, you had to pole plant for your left side with your right hand and shit, it was really awkward. So i just said screw it and skied no poles the rest of the day.

I did it for most of a season when I broke my wrist. Couldn't hold a pole with my cast, and once the cast came off my wrist was too weak. It felt super weird at first but I got used to it. Better than no poles because I needed one at least for skating and pulling myself forward in the lift line.

i skied with a single 8ft bamboo trail marker, changed hands to pole plant, then pole vaulted over a mogul, it was pretty fun....but i dont think i would ever actually ski with one pole

how about instead of using one pole u just take out an umbrella, then start pulling some really steezy 3's and sw1's holding an umbrella over your head - someone shod actually try this

Nothing new about skiing with one pole:

from Wikipedia:

"Some Telemark skiers continue to ski with a single long pole or "lurk" held in both hands in traditional style. The lurk should only contact the snow on the inside of the turn, though some find better balance results if the lurk contacts the snow on the outside of the turn."

I've seen some old Norwegian footage on TV where the guys threw front flips with leather boots, wooden skis and long single poles.

i had a dream last night that it was my first day out and that i only had 1 pole...and i was like "its the new steeze" then i broke my skis...lost 1 of them...and walked around for like 1 huor lookin for them being pissed i was at the hill and not skiing...

i get the same dream more or less every year around this time...

i am so glad you brought up this point. I grew up knowing a hardcore Norwegian tele-marking family and they would bust out the one pole/staff thing every once in a while and throw down some mean pow turns.

Just have to school these young punks once in a while (cause I can't do that anymore in the slopes, heh):)

And yes, I have nothing against new schoolers but sometimes it's pretty funny that it seems that they (note:rough generalisation here) don't know shit about the roots of the sport...I mean there has been alot of cool & interesting things before NCAF, and even before the so called "Plake era"!
