Hey all,
I need help coming up with a set of songs (as many as you can think of) that would be perfect for a new ski film.
The film is all about changing the perspective on modern day skiing, and refining a style of big mountain and back country steeze. It doesn't have massive spins or gaps, it's more urban than Chad's Gap.
So far I have.
1) Bloc Party - So Here We Are
2) The Shins - New Slang
3) Damian Marley - Road To Zion
4) Tokyo Police Club - Nature of the Experiment
5) Broken Social Scene - 7/4 (shoreline)
6) Collie Buddz - Come Around
7) Radiohead - The Gloaming (Softly Open Out Mouths In The Cold)
8) Streetlight Manifesto - The Big Sleep
9) Sufjan Stevens - Holland
10) Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Parallel Universe
11) Bloc Party - Staying Fat
that's the type of stuff I'm looking for, mellow(er) stuff, or alteritive beat stuff.
Post what you got please :)

ya, i completely agree. Even if people have songs they think would work well, they're probably trying to keep em secret so no one else uses them before they do... thats not what im doing or anything...

the hardest part is finding good songs that arent played

exactly, the music you use should be original - don't use the songs u've heard before in ski movies - and its even better if ppl haven't heard the songs your using at all- another thing that could work is music or a song that ppl wouldnt expect to hear in a ski video but u make work for ex if someone made a good edit w/ "me so horny" tat could be sick -
the music you use should also fit your style of skiing and the clips your using, so revaluate the songs your using and don't post the list on ns but keep it to yourself until you release your movie

agreed!
you completely contradicted yourself son!
oh btw, i hope you've got some high profile sponsors that are willing to dump some big cash into your film to pay for your music rights. bands like RHCP, Radiohead and Bloc Party don't come cheap. you could risk it and not pay for the rights but then again, those bands could bury you in legal bills.

Let's hope you can secure the rights for some of the songs, first. Otherwise, you might be paying big time in court.

thats what i was saying, your looking at a hefty budget there if you want anything from bloc party or red hot chilli peppers.
you can get away with using smaller bands in movies sometimes, and bigger bands in web edits, but if your talking about distributing a movie at all your gonna want to make sure you can pay for song rights. otherwise lights out in court.

5) Broken Social Scene - 7/4 (shoreline)
Such a GREAT skiing song! Props on that choice.
I'd add a few more indie songs, personally...
Action Action - Smoke and Mirrors
The Cinematics - Break
Interpol - Pace Is the Trick
Editors - Escape The Nest
The Kooks - Naive
Dogs - Wait
The Bravery - Fistful Of Sand
The Colour - Save Yourself
Klaxons - It's Not Over Yet
Broken Social Scene - Cause = Time
Maximo Park - Books from Boxes

It was my understanding that you only need to pay royalty rights to music if you are collecting money.
For example: If he makes a video and posts it on YouTube for everybody to see for free, he's in the clear. If he makes a video, burns a few DVDs, and sells them for 5 bucks, he's putting himself at risk.
