I would play it a ton if I had a 360. That game is the reason my friend almost failed 11th grade, he said so himself.

I had a hard time getting into it, It was super gay that in the beginning you'd crawl all the way into a fucking cave expecting to get something cool and you'd get a piece of shit because the game scales everything with you.

i disagree greatly:
- the gameplay is linear
- it isn't revolutionary at all, games like zelda are just like it but portray a WAY better storyline, and it has lots of recognizable characters for you to get way more into it
- no emotion when the people talk to you, they just blankly stare at you
- i don't think it got tested properly, so many glitches are in the game, my friends xbox 360 got the red ring of death from it, it was unfortunate!
- it costs money, i might download it if it was free, doubtful though
overall ranking on oblivion by me:
.025/10

it is undoubtedly the best single player rpg ever created. They basically took morrowind and improved it in every single way possible.

No way in hell, In my opinion Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo was the best single player RPG ever. Anyone who's played it can agree with me.

i can relate man!
and yeah im still gonna go with a Ocarina of Time as the greatest single player RPG, that game nailed EVERYTHING!
but i still agree that Oblivion is amazing no doubt there, but i'd vote that Zelda is better, imo anyways, just one guy talking here

It's pretty fucking amazing. Games today just aren't what they used to be in terms of value, you can finish them in 30 hours. Oblivion you could play for 500 and not finish everything there is to do. It's no Daggerfall (Elder Scrolls 2; I was fortunate enough to be exactly the right age for video games when it came out and had time to spend on it), but it's a big world. I find myself playing it a lot lately and I no longer play video games really at all. 9/10.
I stick with FF7 as best of all time, and if they ever remake it for ps3 I'll buy it the day it comes out even if it costs double the average game price. Chrono Trigger was damn good though, above dude. As wwas Chrono Cross; don't know if you ever played that one for PSX.

wow im so glad you made this thread because ive been hooked on this game for a long time. i fuckin love oblivion so much. i am level 24 and still going.
(to the hater) the game is NOT linear how can you even say that?! theres so many things you can do! theres like...6 different lines of quests you can do. yes a lot of them are similar but still its fun.
and what do you mean characters have no emotion talking to you? based on their disposition on you, it effects how they talk to you. they have facial expressions to how much they like you do.
unless your post was a joke...i have to disagree with it

i didn't find anything revolutionary about the game. the graphics are pretty good, and the gameplay is a step up from morrowind (blocking, different "power attacks") however, i found the game fairly easy, the whole scaling thing is pretty bad (being able to become arena grand-champion at level 4 is just one example). i'll have to agree with whoever said Ocarina of Time was the best single player rpg ever. that game was the best.

Ocarina was pathetically cartoony and graphically uninteresting, not to mention the gameplay shrieked "Nintendo". I didn't even finish it. Doesn't rank in the top 10.

In fact let's do that. I haven't played very many RPGs recently so this will be mostly from when I was in high school.
10. Fallout II
9. Deus Ex
8. Chrono Cross
7. Oblivion
6. Xenosaga (particularly parts I and III)
5. Final Fantasy VI (aka III)
4. Diablo
3. Chrono Trigger
2. Fallout
1. Final Fantasy VII
Am I forgetting anything there?

Im getting kind of bored with it now because ive completed the main story line, the dark brotherhood, fighters guild, the thieves guild and a large number of side missions. The only main thing I have left is the mages guild and thats extremely boring.

thats pretty much the list of greatest RPG's right there
I'd say that you could take the top five and put it any order you personally like... great great games

the mages guild isnt very rewarding. ive done everything except the fighters guild which im half way through right now.
if you want really good quests go find the daedra shrines. you get some pretty sweet rewards from them
