Replying to Binding mounting posistion lingo

ok this might be a super noob question but i hear people talking about mounting bindings they say things like forward of center, or back from center.

an example: someone says "o you should mount your bindings 2cm forward of true center"

now they don't mean in front of true center thus making the ski surface area behind the binding greater than in front of the toe piece right?

i always say "so and so cm" back from true center. i don't know what is right. could someone explain?
