haha, invited to rail jam next wednesday, cash prizes for me, then this girl is taking me out after and she's a looker for sure...i hope that came out alright, i've been drinking tonight, but im stoked. also top 100 90s dance songs is amazing, and october 13th NS movie comes out and you should all vote for me so i can win stuff then sell stuff for moneys and buy a new tripod and possibly a generator and work lights for sexy night shoots.

Well, all he does is appeal to ridicule to get his point across, reducing a very complicated and involved theological matter, one of the greatest philosophical proposals ever to be argued, and make it sound like "some old man is sitting in the clouds watching you masturbate"... I mean, it's funny, but easily ridiculed in return, as it shows a pathetic lack of understanding.

He should have conducted the interviews with missionaries who work overseas, or with Christian philosophers. That wouldn't be as entertaining, but it'd be more insightful, assuming he really wanted to have his questions answered.

Drew, I'll probably see, and I'll probably find it funny, but ultimately, Maher isn't going to challenge anyone deeply in their faith, he'd rather take a cheap shot and get his guffaws and move on.

It was great to meet you Lindsey. I hope I proved to you I wasn't a girly girl. It was such a mind-trip to meet someone from NS. Like, you knew I had a date-ish, I knew you had a cabin in tahoe, and we'd never shared the same air before. Weird.

Anyways, all we did do was talk shit about JD. Oh, and I got two hugs, nice ones. Stoked all around.

And therein lies the rub, I think.  He doesn't.  And I agree with all your other points.

I don't know, anytime I see Maher he just seems to have this ridiculous (and ridiculously unfounded) arrogance to him.  He really seems to think he's an expert on just about everything, which he's clearly not.  Just as one example off the top of my head, on his show one night they were talking about the airline industry - which, as an aviation operations major, I know a little about - and for some reason which I truly cannot understand, he was outraged by the idea that airlines outsource maintenance.  He seemed to think it was some major scandal he was uncovering, and some of the other things he said in that show also demonstrated a similar total lack of knowledge on the subject matter. 

Based on what I've seen about his movie (mostly just him talking about it on the Daily Show), it seems to be more of the same: Maher ridiculing people in conversations about subjects he clearly has little grasp of, in this case, the theology and philosophy of religion.  I think you could make the argument that the film illustrates how poorly religious people understand their own religion, but you could make that argument equally well about any number of things other than religion, so it's not particularly insightful, really.

Another thing that frustrates me (going back to his show now), is the guest panel he always has - generally like 3 random celebrities or pseudo-celebrities who are in no way qualified to discuss whatever they're discussing and one person who is...just barely.  I mean, I love Seinfeld as much as the next guy, but who really cares what Jason Alexander's opinion on reforming public education is?

Also, he's a bad comedian.  Terrible delivery.  And it doesn't help that he seems so amused by himself.

  I saw Cut Copy and The Presets last week, saw Ratatat this week, the Phils are up 2 games, had a fantastic indian meal tonight, and I watched three episodes of Trueblood today and fell in love with Anna Paquin.

That inherent smugness that you point out also gets to me. In his Daily Show spiel, he tried across as simply inquisitive reporter on the state of religion, only asking questions because he doesn't know. He then reduced Christianity to an ignorant, biased and unfounded soundbite, to the laughter of many similar circle-jerkers.

Maybe deep down he actually wants to know what the comfort of the religious is, but the way he goes about ridiculing regular folk who didn't directly abuse him with their ignorance makes the whole thing a gimmick. It also doesn't help that he feels "edgy" when attacking religious ignorance is so widespread.

Quick crazy story about what happened after the concert.

My friend Mary Ann and i had taken our bikes on bart to the show. After the show we were headed home, got on our bikes, mary ann took off and i realized my chain had come off and got of my bike to fix it. I'm standing there in the pouring rain thinking mary ann might turn around when she sees i'm not there. No Mary Ann so i decide to start walking... on my way down this wet slippery pretty damn steep hill, this girl comes by on her bike going pretty damn fast... she's yelling somehing and i'm not sure what it is... then all of a sudden i realize she's saying, "NO BRAKES.... NO BRAKES" People are trying to dodge her she's picking up speed and I'm thinking SHIT this girl is going to kill herself. So at the bottom of the hill it was a T... with another sidewalk  and wall and grass.... from far away i see this girl just go straight into that and fly off. A large group of people gather i figure i better get a hold of Mary Ann, she was so relieved to hear from me because at first she thought that girl was me.
I hope and think that the girl was ok.

Threw a dope ass party last night. Snow Kegger 2008: The Meet and Greet.


100 skier and snowboarders, 5 keg, lots and lots of redbull, Yager bombs, and much more. Dope ass party for all the first years and all the ogs.

-Fucking Drunk by 5:30
-Chilled
-Met hella people
-I like being president
-Chilled
-All 5 kegs were done by 9.
-Basically us snow people know how to party and drink beer.
-Met this chick
-Went back to her place at rez.
-Dope
-Got up at like 2am and walked home.
-Legit night.



Now we need a PH party.

Trip to Cali is cancelled, so I can go to Triple Threat at Evo in Seattle now on the 11th. And since I live in the area, looks like the pre-funk party is happening here. So excited.

Also gave my skis to the shop to be stone ground... miss them, but they are so close to ready for snow...

Stoked that my oldest sister just got home tonight.  She's been over in South Korea teaching english for the past two and a half years, so it's cool to see her back again.  We just got out her fancy china set and tea and had a little tea party too, it was sweet.

I survived Six Flags and Kingda Ka. If you guys ever get the opportunity to ride this thing, DO IT!! Its sooooo insane and retardly intense. I walked away from that thing all shook up. You take off and speed to 130mph in 3 seconds...meanwhile your brain and stomach get completely left behind...barely go over the hump and basically free fall the 400 something feet. Ridiculous.

Five days until my fall break which includes FIVE (count 'em) FIVE days of Fall relaxing, apple picking, haunted hay rides, apple cider, boat cruises, and the infamous Fire and Ice seasonal closing party which entails a $20 entry fee at noon for ALL the FREE BOOZE and food you can stomach until 2 AM.

Finally put my money where my mouth is. I just wrote a $2k check to a friend. The agreement is that I work on my startup 15 hrs/week for the next 90 days. If I fuck up and don't do 15 hrs at any point, he keeps the $2k and blows it on booze, gambling, or whatever in a night. Fuck this is gonna be fun.

I have an extreme case of needing to ski. Maybe my addiction is really bad. Regardless, I went up to the Rainier area yesterday with my roommate Chris to find some snow.

We hiked about 1.5 miles into the Pinnicle peak area, next time we are going to Paradise instead. There is more snow over there, and closer.
