let me elaborate...i don't CARE if you think it was the governments fault, or even if you think they did it...its NOT COOL in any way to disrespect people who have died and their families by making fun of 9/11 or any other tragedy.
Props to Drew's last post, I completely agree on principle there.
Lots of people around 1-5 today in Seattle holding banners above the overpasses that say "9/11 Truth!!". If we do turn this into a national holiday, it'll just promote these wacko's more than anything, so lets just keep it like a normal day. Yes we should pause and remember, but we also should let life go on. Any more and we add more impact to what the hijackers accomplished in the attacks.
i think that every one who passed away on 9/11 should most deffinitely be respected and honored...but...that does not mean we should be retaliating for these lost lives. the saying "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" is a perfect example for this situation. reacting so fast has not helped us in the long term. i can remember that day as if it were yesterday, and for one whole month after that the entire world was united and together, we had the support of every one, but being stupid and power hungry (maybe even just ignorant) we decided to betray almost every other country that backed us and we went to go take revenge. this threw us into an ongoing 6 year war, that has done exactly what for our country? i can personally not think of one positive effect that going to war with these countries has done for us.
basically, i think 9/11 should be commemorated and each live lost then and now (including iraqis and any other human that has become entangled within this) should be remembered, but in the words of michael franti and spearhead (if they wrote the song) "you can bomb the world to pieces, but we cant bomb it into peace"
That would me stupid but sad, those people die but I'm sick of hearing about it over and over again.I'm trying to forget about it and you should do the same thing.
Nobody knows the direct reason for going into iraq....bush fighting his father's war, for the oil opporutnities, its all speculation. What IS fact, though, is that they USED 9/11 as their direct reason for entering Iraq, even though it was completely manufactured and false. The point is the government used the fear in every american to rally support for a falsely justified war in Iraq. Fear is a powerful thing when you harness it. Just look at Stalin, Hitler. It was no different in the months following 9/11, just on a more subtle and politcal scale.
I agree with you completely. Maybe I haven't lived as long as you to become quite as cynical as you, but one of the big things that keeps me from completely giving up hope on our country is the fact that you could go read that anywhere in the country you want, in front of the White House, on your street corner, or put brochures out, and the government can do nothing to stop you. Same with flag burning. I don't think that most people have a legitimate reason to burn the flag solely by the fact that they could do so if they wish. Yes, there are thousands of fucked-up things about our country, but we still have it pretty well. Hopefully our citizens won't keep being so fucking apathetic and ignorant about the world and actually start giving a shit about what is happening to our country.
by the way i dont like terrorism but in the numbers im twice as likely to get shot by a trigger happy cop or narcotics agent than by terrorists. so fuck terrorists but fuck america as well
Yeah the odds of getting killed by a Terrorist attack are low, but why would you say fuck America? And what if your were one of many who died on 9-1-1. You shouldn't say that shit. I was just watching a show on the familys who lost somone if the attack. Its amazing what the firefighters did, I don't think you should make it a holiday but I will always remember those who died on that day.
^yeah from wat i know/seen from his posts in the past, hes deff a smart guy
and i dont wanna start this debate cause, well, i dunno. but theres so much evidence both ways about the gov being involved. the only way for it to actually be proved is for some1 to come out n say it happened, otherwise, its not goin anywhere. the debate will keep goin on
what i mean is i am sad that the people who got killed in the world trade centers were innocent.
But if you rounded up all the harded headed leaders of this country, all the senators who look like their 300 years old and bitch about marijuana, all the bloodthirsty cops and narcotics agents, all the imbred obese people on welfare who spend their entire lives trying to sue the rich for outrageous things, if it was only them piled up in the world trade center on 911 i wouldnt give a shit.
he's obviously not stupid seeing as he actually contibutes to this thread with thoughts and ideas rather than just working to shoot people down, not that i agree with everything little thing he says but atleast i open my mind to others beliefs and try to understand where they are coming from
But I basically said the same thing Drew did, but with less swearing. All the kids in the class and the teacher was like "America is the greatest country in the world. You are a hippy. God bless America blah blah blah."
Our country was made by people suppressed by a monarchy. Not by Muslims with dynamite vests.
And human life does still have value. At least here. The terrorists blowing up innocent people are the ones who don't value human life.
About voting. To understand the way terrorists operate you have to understand where they're coming from. Their faith has a major part in their decisions to blow innocents up. Also, since their organization doesn't have the strength to defeat a country from the outside (by attacking our military) they operate through terror. Hence the name terrorists. So, they induce it by flying planes into buildings, stuffing cars with C4, etc. So as soon as our government stops trying to prevent them, (I.E. when a liberal gets elected) terrorists are gonna have it golden.
We can't expect a government to control other people and make us happy. But we can hope for the best, and I sure as hell believe that's what's going on right now.
Now that I read my essay about the subject, the similarities are so similar its scary.
(keep in mind I wrote this during class)
"I do feel Patriot Day is worth remembering. I feel 9/11 has left a ginormous impact on America. It has revived blind hate toward the middle east, anti-Americanism, and government conspiricy (this one I think is stupid).
Personally speaking, the biggest impact it left was m political awareness. Before the attack, "politics" was just another word amongst my parent's at the time enigmatic blather. I somewhat lament the deaths of the victims, but no more than I lament the deaths of those who died in Darfur, Sudan, Vietnam, et cetera. During the rought times shortly following September 11th, the levels of nationalistic pride skyrocketed. On the contray, my pride in America plummeted. Shortly after those two shadowy figures and the people within met their demise, the illusion; the fabricated haven-world bullshit my parents projected upon me began to dissolve.
It made me question authority. It turned the once accepted concept of superiority of law over virtue into the idea of the law's inferiority to morals. Those who dissagree with America's new ways (new policies, new POA, our sorry excuse for a president) are perceived as "unpatriotic" or downright malicious. Was this country not founded by the rebellious? Those flag-burning unpatriotic citizens who did nothing more than simply say 'This isn't right,'?
Six years later, this is my opinion, and that oh-so-coveted illusion dissipates still, as I finish writing this."
And to Rez4frederick, Hitler and Stalin didn't kill anyone with their own two hands, either. Osama is not a good person. I agree the terrorist threat is overstated, but Osama has the power and influence to encourage more violence. Don't underestimate what he and others can and can't do, that's exactly what we did before.
