I'm taking a sociology course this semester called "Peoples and Cultures of the Middle East" and the professor was going over some of the reading we will be doing. He starts to go off about this one author who has written about the Middle East but has completely tarnished the way things really are. For instance, he claims that the reason Muslim extremists exist is because all the men over there are sexually confused/humiliated. He goes on to explain that this is because the men over there do not have contact with women like we do here, because of their religion (i.e. covering their bodies with clothing). He states that because of this, the Muslim extremists become so angry and jealous of our culture that they kill innocent people. He claims that all the Muslims only "think with what's between their legs and not between their ears" and that's why they do what they do. I can't remember the name of the author, but he has since become an authority figure of some kind of military or government related agency, and his books are constantly being sent to Iraq for our soldiers to read so they can all have a tarnished impression of the opposing forces. Can you believe that shit? Get that fucking crap away from our troops. As if the situation wasn't bad enough over there, now all of our soldiers will start to think of the people there as sub-human scum. Damnit all.
I really wish I could remember the guy's name, anyone know it?

think for a second though. what are muslim extremists promised after they blow themselves up? how many virgins...? as joe rogan said, it's a testament to the power of pussy, that grown men would kill themselves and many others just for the off chance that they get some in the afterlife.

haha good ol joe rogan.
but seriously, suicide bombers are often depressed, young and confused junkies who are anything but devout muslims. they see killing themselves as a way to make up for the shitty way theyve lived their lives.
how do you think they recruit these people? they offer them a chance to redeem themselves and escape the shithole they live in, and give them a purpose their life never had before.

it doesn't. taken out of context it can be interpreted as that, but in context it only mentions using force against non-believers who are already using force against you. so basically it's just self-defense, which is cool.

I say fuck religion all together. Sure, it gives people some sort of faith with no absolution whatsoever, but think orf every war that has been due to religious conflicts (or so they say). Live your life.

i can understand the "live your life" thing and all and the thought of nothing after death doesnt scare me at all but not every war has been because of religous conflict. some have especially in the past but now wars are about money and power really and of course oil

Every war, perhaps with the exception of Vietnam and Korea can be attributed in some way shape or form to religion/religious beliefs.

No, religion played a small part in alot of wars but it wasnt the main problem. the revolutionary war was partially for freedom of religion(so athiests could believe what they wanted) but alot of it was to be free from british rule and british taxes.
the current war is mostly because of oil
religion is just an easy scapegoat for problems

no it doesnt. cuz they dont. but muslims do follow their religion basically blind to morals in terms of killing/suicide bombing

actually its always been about power. religion was just one of the ways the men in power got people to fight for them.
and i think you can add more than korea and vietnam to that list. most wars are about land acquisition, and the ones that aren't and appear to be about religion are usually just based on socio-economic inequalities between religious sects. for example, the french wars of religion were due catholics being jealous of the minority population of protestants' great wealth. its not really religion in these cases, its man's nature to hate those who are different and especially those who are richer and different (such as jews)
religion is not to blame for wars. people are to blame.

Read a damn history book. Atheism played absolutely NO part in the Revolutionary War, or anything regarding American History for that matter.
The country was built and first settled by people escaping religious persacution in Europe by varying factions of Christianity.

Did I ever say it was the sole cause? In some way shape or form, it can be tied in as a cause, along with many other reasons.
