Sometimes schools have a nice deal on computer's through local distributors and stuff, check with the school and see.

I got lucky, my parents bought me a brand new Gateway :-D My dad owns a business, and part of his business is a Gateway dealer. It totally rocks! It's the 500X with a few mods. A great video editing computer...
