What skis should I buy

I'm getting a new pair of skis this year, but I don't really have any idea where to start as far as what skis to check out.

Currently I'm skiing on Salomon 1080s 171cm (orange space-frames...not sure what year exactly). I need a ski that is shorter, fatter, and way lighter. I would like a bit more flex than the 1080s, but I don't want to sacrifice too much stability.... My 1080s hold an edge on almost anything, and I don't want to give up that control.

Most of my time is spent off trail in the trees, but I also love skiing bumps, and I want to spend a lot more time in the park this year.

I ski primarily in VT, but I go out West occasionally, and I should be moving out there within a couple years. Basically I need an east coast ski that wont be completely worthless if I end up moving out west.

I'm going to blindly reccomend 2007 167cm Chronics because I said so.

ok, few problems,
1. Don't go any shorter, unless you're like 5'2
2. Doesnt get much lighter than a salamon, especially if you want somthing fatter
3. Get the new line chronic blends, i think they have 1 179 maybe, get that it will be great for what you are doing, or get some scratch BC's they are still real light, there are a few pairs for sale on here real cheap to

I'm actually 5'10. I love the 171s, but my 1080s are really fucking heavy, and I wanted to significantly drop the weight for my next pair. I'll stick with the 171s.

I'll def pick up a buyers guide for this year, but I doubt I'll have the money for a brand new pair of this years skis. I'll probably be going with last years models.

Anyone know anything about the Armada ARVs? a couple people recommended them to me, and I found a pretty good deal online for last years.

Length actually has very little to do with weight.

Its all in the materials and core used in the ski. My 176 Ar6's are the same weight as my 158 Scratch's.
