I was lookin at a new pair of all mountain/backcountry skis that would also work in the pipe and someone suggested to me i look at prophet 100... Is that what i should be looking at or somethin else?
i might be naive but i've never heard of someone bringing a 100mm fatty into the pipe. especially one as stiff as the prophet 100. i think it would be a horrible idea
i could be way wong on this but i t hink that you could get away with anthems that are a 93 mm waist in the park/pipe/backcountry as long as you aren't over 180 pounds. Because seths are only 97 underfoot or something like that.
try the chronic blends, 90 waist should be great in Pow but still nimble enough to excel in the pipe and on rails, i think theres a Prophet 90 to so check that out also
This is a tough question because the two disciplines require very different tools, ideally. The Prophet 100s are a balla big mountain ski. I think you could ride pipe with them, but they are not the best tool for it. Unlike the Prophet 130s referenced (the Jibij guy uses them for pipe and claims they give the best boost of any skis made), which are really soft, the 100s are stiff (but damp).
I love my 100s, though (and additionally my 130s), and definitely recommend them for anyone interested.
I have both in a 186, and neither are soft. I find both pretty stiff. I think they would suck in the pipe, but never tried them. Have done spins on both and the 100's go pretty slow.
Thats the thing tho... i already have a pair of last years salomon foils for rails and stuff, but the edge is completely gone. Thats kinda why i'm looking cuz i thought the foils weren't quite wide enough for the pow and i never got a chance to ride pipe last year. So if i was to look at the prophet 90 and the Chronic Blend, which one is more versatile?
I have the prophet100 in 186cm and absolutely love them. I ski a lot of pipe but mainly on the chronic. I have taken the prophet in the pipe before on some really slushy days and they were really fun. They have a smooth flex on the wall and killed the chop in the flat bottom. I think if your just looking to make some airs and smaller spins they will be fine in the pipe.
