I mean it had some cool shit, but still, overhyped. I was expecting Brigham Young to come back to life or something with all this hype. But it just seemed like Community Project rehashed. If you see one powder butter you have seen them all. Re-release Stereotype, label it Idea, cut out Steele Spence, done. Best movie.
guys, surely this guy is entitled to his opinion?
he didn't like the movie, fair enough, he was just asking whether or not anyone else felt the same way... cue the hating.
I agree. I don't think Idea lived up to the hype. And I liked the butters. But butters don't make a great film (for me).
In defense of a thread like this, after reading all the reviews, it made me wonder if I was alone as a dissenter. It's nice to know I'm know not.
More than one opinion is a good thing--hopefully it means better ski films in the future. And we all want that, right? In order to do that, filmmakers, like Iberg, shouldn't be afraid to consider what some people in the community have to say--which is, we can do better.
^With no disrespect to your opinion, with the exception of the intro, I thought the filming was very standard and uninspired. I think Mack Dawg's "Picture This" teaser shows they are really pushing the envelope. And I find the filming in Level 1 videos to be more creative. But that's my opinion.
and there you go, anyone whos favorite films are produced by berman and his gang of rail sluts, wont think idea is that great of a movie. they are exact opposites.
Idea was truely revolutionary. a completly new style of skiing (rockered park and all mountain), done by the best there is (fujas, maher, pollard) and put together by the greatest ski director of all time (iberg). I fail to see how it is not an amazing film, it has perfect ingredients and was perfectly put together.
you're judging a movie based on teaser? mack dog has sick editing and interesting angles and locations/features, but to the filming is better is a load of crap, as idea is a completely unique movie and iberg went out of his way in this to make every shot close to perfect...im really sick of all the praise boarder flicks are getting lately, im mean they're sick but they are not lightyears ahead as so many people are claiming.
Seriously. Idea is a work of art. Some people will love it, and some people will probably not enjoy it. I personally think it is the greatest ski flick I have ever seen, but that is just me.
I would say that the movie's style kind of let the skiing speak for itself, a simple documentation of 3 guys doing some creative skiing. Nothing more needed. But surely not everyone will absolutely dig it. Another very unique aspect to this movie (that may bum out some people who want more of a "stoke") was the ORIGINAL soundtrack. A la "Haakonsen Faktor" for those that have seen it. Not an easy thing to do, but it helps make a very original feel and product.
you guys have absolutley no idea how the cinematography in a movie works.
Mack Dawg films has one of the BIGGEST budgets out there. This guy can afford to set up a cable cam shot wherever the fuck he wants. His budget is about 5x bigger then MSP's.
Dont compare snowboard films to ski films there on entirley diffrent levels right now. And the cinematography behind Idea is completely diffrent from Level 1's cinematography. Shot on different cameras, different directiors and filmers.
Idea is something completly new and needs to be embraced with open arms becuase in the skiing world right now, Idea is at the top of progression.
ya!!!
why wasnt steele in this movie.
he has some of the most bangerish segs every year. All he does is smile and rip. these guys all kind of want to make me listen to sinead O'conner.
soem of the shit they say just kind of ruins my life.
theyre good at the skiing though.
I disagree. One of the reasons I have bought Bermans films for the past two years is that I see a very fun loving aspect in them, which is completely lacking from some videos and productions companies in general. Idea seems to show friends skiing and having fun, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
let the man speak. even perfection must have a critique. this is america kids freedom of speech. leave the rails sluts and the powder kids alone. both are skiing both are for the love.
exactly, this is one of those movies that I would really feel bad about downloading (aka steeling). Big production companies with movies you see in theaters aren't a big deal but seriously, don't steal Idea!
I agree that it is at the top of skiing...but still three years behind everything else. The skiing was great. But as far as filmmaking, it wasn't anything special.
And budgets can only go so far. Just because you have a lot of money doesn't mean you can make a good film. You can have zero budget and still make something great and new for skiing.
