Question to everyone: Do you believe that "Idea" has changed the route of skiing by creating a whole new genre and basically revived the purity of the sport which seems to have been lost these past years?
true true, but i'm saying beyond just the tricks..the tricks are sick for sure, it's insane, but i'm talking about just how the movie is based solely on skiing, not the the individual, not on who's part is better, who threw the biggest trick. Everyone can relate to this movie because it's a tight group of friends who are loving life and just skiing. All of us have experienced that for sure! It just feels like skiing was really lost in the whole idea that you have to go big fast and throw down the craziest shit. But in this movie it was all based on what they want to do, on what is fun, on what is them! That's what so rad about it!
word. sooo true. I saw Push after hearing about idea, and thought that approach to skiing will probably die off. Everyone is realizing it's all about having fun.
However, if every company started making movies that way, i think they would be pushing it again.
so i don't think evey company should start following Idea, but I will enjoy it's outlook for sure.
U JUST COULDNT SAY BETTER.
Idea is probly where skiing must go.
All those ski movies are soooooooo stupid-SO STRESSING ABOUT ALWAYS PROGRESSING,whos goin bigger faster harder....whos part is sicker.
So individual and gangsterd up.
And this is like ART////friends having good time toger?doing whats fun and cool...
And yes this movie probably will pull lots of guys into pow buttrs and stuff.
Well me personally....because of injuries...i have to end with park and tough spins.....to hard for my legs and joints...also i am really fed up with this progression fever in park, and all this spin to win shiat(cuz i am more into the STYLE THING)..and i was soo upset....like skiing ended for me,and then BAM!IDEA!LIKE WHOA!NEW WAY?so I bought wide skis and sooooo stoked for the next season......
I can't wait to see this movie. What I fear though is that Idea will become the new model for ski movies. The question should be...that was soo sick, now what can we do different and original again. Thats the hardest part of artistic creativity is that when something original comes out everyone follows...
Yeah. Idea has been long past due. The way I see it, having these three guys in a movie together calling their own shots couldn't of helped but accomplish what they did.
Pollard, Mahre &... PEP have all been skiing "prophets" in their own right over the last few years. And they have been out of place in the current competition and video scene that they were previously involved with. Not to say that skiing is only about skiing pillows and hitting sled-accessed backcountry booters...because it isn't, but this movie will certainly be an inspirational to future skiing & ski videos. Props!
i agree with all of these comments, i have had idea for 6 days and watched it about 8 times or so. i really cant watch other movies now, they really are not the same. Its kinda hard to explain, but the movie kinda has character, the way all the segments come together, and it truly is just pure skiing, no sponsors, no fighting for the best segment, just skiing the way it should be. its hard to explain what it is about the movie, it just seems like they got something right, and it deffinitely shows. I wouldnt be surpirsied if pollard never films with like msp or any other film crew again besides himself unless some major changes happen. even in puish and pull all the other segments were like yea skiing cant progres much further were going huge hauling ass, then pollards segment was like yea im not really in to all of that, i just love skiing and his segmnent,as sick as it was, felt out of place. but idea deffinitely set a new standard as far as what can be expected in ski movies
word for sure..,.,well put sir...oh and p.s. to that no poles=no balls....try skiin 3 feet of fresh pow w/o poles....you'll be fucking bitchin about how hard it is..no poles is just another form of skiing....it's one mountain, one love...regardless of how it's done..when people start focusing on the material of it all (i.e. outerwear, goggles, poles, skies) then they aren't true skiers...their fashion victims....sorry but it's true...
ya it may have its ouwn thang, but deep down its all-bout the beef ski/ridin east vs. west biatches, keep an eye thell be 1 cmpny repin like it should next season
It's the Idea... Cali P in the head now. It's funny how a ski movie can produce such deep comments on skiing. I think this movie shows some great skiing and thats what we all love to do. PS. Washington seg is the sickest. Can you say Pow Pow. that was such a sick week.
not seeing it i can guess it has alot of crazy big mt shit, landing sw in alot of pow and new tricks off cliffs. Thats all in good but dosent effect how im going to ski at my home mt in the east. They are doing sick new shit but how many of us are going to beable to get out there and start to do what they are doing. Im sure the movie makes you want to think diffrent about skiing, but im not sure how it will bring skiing into a new era.
I have yet to have the pleasure of seeing Idea, but what I am hoping is that it brings back a level of personality into ski movies.
The recent movies have been nothing more than a bunch of clips of actions shots with no soul and no emotion included. You don't get a translation of the vibe of the scene from the athletes anymore and it has become so detached and immpersonal.
My favorite ski movies to watch are the older ones. Not for the skiing, or the soundtrack, but because you felt involved, as if you were there and an actual part of the action and events.
When I watch a ski movie, I want to watch good skiing, good times, laughter and people having fun. And this is exactly where many of the recent ski movies have fallen short, and is where I am hoping that Idea will deliver.
^my earlier comment kind of targets this statement. I don't think the intent of any art is to make you go do it...you know? I think they are just exhibiting what they love...
you can't get the movie anywhere i believe..i just got a watch it through a buddy who knows eric iberg and shit...right now it's kinda at who ya know status, but you'll defintiely be able to get it in a couple weeks i believe...but i could be wrong! maybe there are places that are selling them, but i've only found pre-orders right now..
so what your saying is will skiing movies turn into snowboarding movies? hopefully...cause i want to see some fun skiing movies so i wont have toi buy as many snowboarding ones...
hah thanks! I'll try to stay away from lame posts about fashion and shit..that crap pisses me off! Like that visor one that got posted...i mean really? who cares...
While there were a couple sections I thought were exceptional, switch pow turns through the trees and stomping switch pow landings, for the most part I thought the video too long, too slow and too repetitive. There weren't that many different locations or features--and a number of the tricks on those features weren't awesome. I'm not a fan of the sound track. To me, it stayed the same throughout and never changed emotionally. I didn't really find anything innovative about pow turns. Aren't those as old as Warren Miller? I didn't like the snowboard section. As a few fun cutaways, it would have been cool. But I buy snowboard films to watch snowboarding. Really, I left the film bored.
I agree 100% with those people who say ski films need to show more fun, more personality, more creativity and therefore more soul, but compared to the Think Thank snowboard movies, Idea fell flat in that respect.
See, to me the tricks and level of skiing is secondary if the vibe and feeling of the movie is fun.
I'm going to stop commenting on the movie though until I see it as it's unfair to pass judgement until I own it.
I just hope that overall we start seeing pros having fun while skiing instead of all the seriousness and competativeness of skiing that is being shown in most movies these days.
Wow, I just picked up my copy from Jibij. The movie is so so sick. Definitely is the best I have ever seen. My expectations were extremely high for this film, and I have not decided yet exactly how I feel about it, but for the most part it is just epic. Considering all the obstacles they had this year snow wise and injury wise it is amazing. I can't imagine what is possible with a truly epic year.
umm...ok? Next time i'll post what everyone posts...Who's hotter, sarah burke or kristi leskinen...i'll make sure to post a no polls blows one for sure..ooh and what goggles are sicker..and don't forget the famous tanner hall is a bitch posts...can't' forget that...i'll make sure never to post something that makes people think about their sport and how it relates to them...my bad
thats what skiing should be all about sure i love watching people huck huge are and getting it my self but i still enjoy just skiing switch down the mountian and just having fun
just watched for the first time today. such a good concept for a ski film, even if it does stay entirely in the same vein for the whole movie (not just the skiing, the soundtrack and "vibe" as well). seeing what these guys are capable of is sick, and there isn't any vibe like they're trying too hard, which i see in a lot of other ski movies. it basically seems like iberg just followed the three around and made a video of them doing what they do best.
i need to watch a second and third time to get an accurate analysis, but it definitely lived up to the hype. it does move sort of slowly at times, as someone noted, but the non-stop switch pow action makes up for it.
don't worry--you can't pull off the format without those three skiers. who else could turn a mediocre powder day at meadows into a truely enjoyable film segment?
orrrrrrrr, like maybe, like... wholy i just watched idea dn i cant stop watching it.
good for you... jibbing in the back country and trees isnt new. no poles isnt new. add something new.
oh and fyi, sarah is nicer looking, but kristi is hotter. no polls is the same as skiing with poles. crowbars are the neetest. and tanner hall can be whatever he wants, all he does is win pipe contests and tries new things. wanna make people think? ask them a calculus question!
Funk that skiings about having fun!
