if you're going to deer valley and staying close to the resort, that also means you are close to PC and canyons. my parents skied deer valley when i was out there last year, and me and my friends skied canyons and PC. there's free public transportation that picks you up on like every street corner and drops you off at the base of any of the three ski areas, so you can easily hit up PC and canyons too. PC's sick for park, obviously, with some pretty good trees, etc. but i liked canyons better as far as out of the park skiing goes. it was a lot less crowded than PC and stuff didnt get tracked out as quickly. and the stuff you can hike to pretty easily off of 9990 chair is a lot of fun too.
deer valley IS for rich people that like groomers. that means, however, that the snow off the trails doesn't get touched. at least not very quickly.
dv is super expensive so i don't go there unless i wind up with a free ticket for some reason, but if your parents are paying, it could be a lot of fun. they have some sick cornices (with perfect wide-open inruns too!) and good tree skiing.
