Mukluk - whoever you are (I'm a pre-cougar who has been around the block and back in Tahoe and am tired of half-truths and lies on these forums) - you obviously either work at Sports Exchange or work for Moment or something. Of your only three "friends" on your profile, two of them - TJohnson and *THEDEANE* - both replied to this thread. Coincidence? Maybe you're all really the same person??? Anyway, since I've been around the ski industry all of my life let me educate you and whoever else is reading this (that goes for you DingoSean and GotSteaz). Prices on NEW 07/08 skis - Porters, Bobos, RMS, a shop in Sac, wherever - ARE ALWAYS MARKED AT THE SAME PRICE. K2 or Line or Armada or any "big" company DICTATES to the shop what is called the "minimum advertised price" or MAP. A shop CANNOT sell a ski below MAP or risk getting in trouble with the brand. Do shops do it sometimes? Yes. But you're an uneducated fool if you think the sticker price on a new K2 Hell Bent is going to be "cheaper" at a shop in Reno or Sac than in Tahoe. Now that DOESN'T MEAN that you can't negotiate one-on-one with a shop and have them sell it to you below MAP, but all shops price their stuff THE SAME!! My point here is not to defend Porters or Bobos or talk bad about Sports Exchange or whoever - just to educate you boys. Now if you're a true local on the North Shore you can get a 10% local's discount at Porters, Totally Board, Taits, and Daves. I don't think that you can at the Chief, SVSS, or the Loft. Not sure of Sports Exchange but I've met the owner before and locals only have nice things to say about him and I assume that they would give a local's discount too. But you're straight LYING Mukluk when you say EVERY twin tip was at least $100 more at Porters. If Sports Exchange and Porters have the IDENTICAL 07/08 brand, model, and size ski, the sticker price on both WILL BE THE SAME.....PERIOD. Again, local's discount, or bro deals, or constant negotiating (especially if we have another winter in Tahoe like last years) can allow you to pay less than MAP, but a K2 Hell Bent is priced the same in Reno as in Tahoe as in Sac as at Porters as at Bobos as at Sports Exchange.
Word. Ultimately you put another spin on this whole thing which in a way was my point to begin with and why I typed as much as I did last night. With as much machismo and testosterone as there is on this site, from a chicks perspective, I question where's the loyalty and why do so many people have to have it always be about price? As long as you're not getting screwed like my MSRP / MAP bullshit example, all good cool, newschooler shops should be the same price on 07/08 stuff through February 1st. Support them. Support Porters - i know who the owner is and he's just a 30-something year old really passionate guy with no lazy, rich money behind him. Support Sports Exchange - they're cool too. Support our other true local businesses like Daves or Totally Board. Support Out of Bounds in Reno and Carson City. They ALL work hard and CARE about skiing and snowboarding.
