how the fuck are you 6 foot 4 and only 140 lbs. you need to eat and hit the gym before ski season roles around. at 140 a pair of last years 175 tm's would keep you on top of the snow.
you are very oddly proportioned, but i'm sure you know that. you have to be honest about your abilities here, if you're pretty good, get the bigger ones. if you're not so much of a strong skier, get the 179s.
The 179 is really a 184, the 189 is a 194, i am 6'2" 170 and i am getting the 179, but i want it for buttering, pow, and BC jumps, i have an Ant for charging. With your weird proportion i would say 179.
You could probably go with the 179s. As said before these measure long. They measure long for K2s. I was comparing a 179 Seth, 179 Hellbent and a 183 and 190 Gotama together. The 179 Seth is the same hight as the 183 Gotama, and the 179 Hellbent is like 1-2cm shorter than a 190 Gotama. They literally do measure like 185. The 189 would be a big fucking ski. You'd get tossed around weighing 140. Fuck I'm 5'10" 175, you've got 6 inches on me and weigh 25 lbs less, thats crazy.
I am 5 8 and 150, I rock the 179 hellbents. I cant tell you how it rides cause I just got them and it's only September. So as you can understand I have not been on them yet. My Seth's are 179 also at a +3 and I love them!!
So I didnt want to make a new thread so instead to ask my question im going to bump this one.
Im 6 feet tall and about 145 lbs, i ski a 179 as a park ski centered always and have skied a 186 in the past as a big mountain ski but it was not as thick ask the hellbent and it seemed kinda big then, I cant decide between the 179 or the 189 hellbent, just wanted to see some others opinions for my case, thanks.
I think you ought to go with the 179's at your weight. I have a friend who skies the 175 sumos (which are more like 180), and loves them for pow and trees. My guess is if you're getting the hellbents you're looking for a playful turny ski, the 179 will certainly float you fine. Yes it's rockered and will ski shorter, but that is what makes it playful.
I however would get the 189s at 6'2 195 (Everybody else was doing it). Actually I wouldn't get them, they're too soft.
For the love of all things Holy, DO NOT get the 189!
They are a beefy (read: heavy) ski that is uberfat and rockered...Even Andy Mahre said the 189 Made'n was ridiculous to try'n spin with, and the Hellbent being even bigger will only be worse. And you don't ski like Andy does either. At your weight the 189 would more than likely ski you. Get the 179, which is more like a 185 anyway, and you'll be fine. The only reason you could/would rock the 189 would be for a huge charging ski, in which case, the Hellbent isn't the right ski for you anyway.
