vista is a huge memory hog. if you get something with vista on it, it will probably have extra memory which is good, and then you can always install some xp on it.

yeah if you really want gaming then you'll want a huge one, but that is gonna suck carrying around with you on campus if you are planning on it. you could always get a smaller one and just buy a separate monitor to use when you want to play.

Number 2 most likely.
I wouldn't do a ton of gaming on my laptop. Just when I get bored in class or something haha.
The laptop will mainly be for taking notes, doing school stuff, music, and browsing the net. I want a fairly fast laptop so the internet runs quickly.
I have a desktop PC that is good for gaming anyway.
GeForce 7950GT 256mb HD video card (PCI Express x16)
2GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Pentium 4 HT processor. 3.2MHz
19" Widescreen flat-panel monitor

i have a nice desktop, but i also just got a cheap laptop from a friend for 350 bucks. it is a year old and not that fast, but it does everything i need. although the processor is slow and there isn't much memory compared to my desktop, it still runs the internet just as fast, or close to it.

if you have a good gaming rig then you dont need a very expensive laptop at all.
Get a dual core (Core Duo or AMD X2) for sure. Atleast 2.0ghz. Future of everything, single core is a waste of money now.
2gb of ram...eventually Vista will be worked out and you'll be glad you have the balls to run it. Even if you only have XP, 2gb makes sure you wont have any problem with having multiple app's open (Music, word, internet, msn/aim, etc).
If you want to do a little gaming on it, get a small dedicated video card. Stay away from shared ones, they blow, I would know because I have one.
Almost every laptop has a decent wireless card, make sure its brand name and you'll be fine.
shoot for 100+ gb of HD space, it gets taken up faster then you think.
If you want some actual links to one you can buy, then say so and i can show you some shit

Alienware is way over priced.
If you want something better then the one i posted for 1000 bucks i can find something closer to 2 grand if you want. But it might be better then your gaming rig :P

haha, sorry. i have a math teacher who is a total tech guy, he buys all the components and hardware and then assembles it himself. its fairly complicated, but you can build the best laptop/computer for the least amount of money. otherwise i dont know too much about it.

vigorgaming.com
best laptops(imo), smaller company that lets you customize w.e with great customer service
look at the ares or one of the smaller ones
you can go with some of the bigger companies i'd say hp if thats what you want, but i'm gunna advise you to go with vigor i'm on my vigor right now, its a desktop replacement but it doesnt seem like thats what you need.

e6600
2gb corsiar ram
100gb 7200rpm
512mn nVidia card
that would smoke a lot of gaming rigs although the mobo's FSB is only 533mhz :/
