I talked to a member of th FIS board today (the people who choose what event are to be in the olympics) and he said its looking like there is a 95% chance they are going to be in the 2014 olympics

they wouldn't do no inverts and no switch, but I've been told the reason that they didn't include it in 2010 was that there weren't enough countries that could put together a female team, meaning there weren't enough girls or something but now I guess there are

Fuck the fis and what they did too freestyle. doesn't every one remember the the fis sucks stickers from freeze and what they did to moguls and acro and combine? If we don't learn from our history we wil be doomed to repeat it.

You don't know shit.
Do you hink Sean White is worse off because FIS put snowboarding in the Olympics? Of course not, he gets to enjoy the benefits of both sides of the sport: All of the pro events like Opens, X-Games, Ticket to Ride, etc., as well as reaping the mainstream benefits of an Olympic gold.
That's what it could be like for skiers, the sport is of ski halfpipe is strong enough on it's own that FIS can't fuck it up, all they can do is provide yet another opportunity for events. If those events aren't up to par, then they won't be attended, and nobody is the worse for it. If those events happen to include the Olympics, then it gives our hardest working athletes an opportunity that they all would love to have...
When FIS runs a shitty snowboard world cup event, there's a real simple solution: nobody goes, like last winter when they had one in Korea with a field of 8 men. Does that mean they shouldn't put it in the Olympics any more? Of course not, it was the first event to sell out at the Torino games.
Basically, all the pro snowboarders have FIS by the balls, they know that FIS needs them to bring the viewers at the major events, so they just pick and choose when to do the FIS events, and FIS provides an Olympic opportunity for them. It could be the same for us....

NO you don't know shit. The FIS has been against twin tip skiing since its conception. .
The FIS thinks that newschool skiing is a threat to everything its based off of. That is why its very unlikely we will ever see that event happen. They think that people will drop their racing skis, Moguls sticks to convert to newschool skiing ( which is happening in many places, ive came from a bump/racing backgroud). I would LOVE to see the FIS let us in, but in reality we would have to fight tooth and nail for it.

I don't plan on making money off skiing. Fuck the olympics. I would rather not have it bastardize our sport.

2014 is a long way off anyway. Who knows what tricks they'll be throwing in the pipe. I'm sure double rodeos or something equally as psycho will be the norm by then. I am too busy being stoked about next season than worrying about something that's going to happen in like 7 years.

You obviously didn't really read the post that you replied to, since you seem to be arguing points that were never made or even suggested......
OF COURSE FIS has been against newschool skiing from the start, and of course they see it as a threat, that's pretty obvious.
The same could be said for snowboarding when it started, do you think FIS was stoked when kids stopped ski racing to pick up snowboards?
The point I was making (which you seem to have missed) was that once a sport gets a life of it's own (like snowboarding and newschool skiing), then all FIS can do is try to catch up and if their lucky, capitalize on it a bit by enticing some of the athletes to their high profile events.
In such cases, even though they may flail (and often do) on their own events, they can't really fuck the sport up, because they don't control the sport.
To use snowboarding as an example yet again: FIS does not control the sport of snowboarding in the least, however they DO provide an Olympic opportunity for them.
Get it?

No i do get it. Snowboarding isn't skiing....the FIS ( Federation Internationale du "SKI") is resonsible ( in the regular sporting world) for skiing, not snowboarding. Snowboarding is not a direct threat to skiing. Tons of people think otherwise, but that was never the case. Newschool skiing is a DIRECT threat against everything they are, their rules, regulations, core beliefs. Snowboarding is not.
To make sure that newschool skiing says tamed, they will do anything. That is what im saying, they want to control newschool skiing. They want us to bend to them. Believe me, they can fuck up our sport in more ways then you can imagine. They have incredible influence on resorts, other organisations, etc.
They are not going to give us the opportunity to make this sport big, or set in stone. Our sport ( even though you would like to think so) is not rock solid. Twip tip skiing is just stretching its legs. We still do not have the number of large comps that snowboarding has, the independant companies it has, or support from the public. Look what happened to rollerblading......soo don't think that can't happen to us.

BAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAHHAAHAHHAH, right. No one ever quit skiing to snowboard..... (Terje, White, etc, etc.)
And I suppose it especially wasn't a threat to skiing around 1996 when FIS officially added snowboard Halfpipe to the Nagano Olympic schedule......
And FIS is not so much against Newschool. it is more a case of them being completely clueless about it. They have been holding FIS World Cup ski halfpipe events since 2003, and it became an official FIS Freestyle World Championship Discipline in 2005 in Ruka, Finland.
A few sick skiers went to that World Champs event, Vanular, Burke, Riddle, etc. T-Hall and Dumont were both planning to attend before they were injured (ankles, pelvis), they even competed in the FIS Nor-Am halfpipe events in December of 04 just so they could qualify.
