Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 Help???

so i recently downloaded this program and what not and i have the full version the only problem is i'm use to windows movie maker and i don't have any clue how to edit and what not...does anyone have some tutorials and could you just help me out..i catch onto stuff easily but this shit is complicated ....thankss???

umm i dunno i figured it out pretty easy...what are you having trouble doing?

unlike movie maker i found if you think more about what shots you need to put in places to make certain effects helps....not sure i pharsed that right but yeah

a book really isnt neccesary for premiere pro, it would definitely help with something like after effects though. I figured premiere out pretty quickly, just play around with it and read the help files a little bit. And to learn how to use the effects and what they do, just mess around with em. Creativecow.net will definately help, just watch and follow along with the tutorials and you'll pick some useful stuff up, even if you dont fully understand what you're doing in the tutorial. Thats how im learning AE.

^thats how i further more learned photoshop, but like, it was easy to start off with. premier is overwhelming. one day i'll stop being a lazy ass and actually strive to learn

if you think premiere is overwhelming wait til you decide you want to use after effects, now that is overwhelming. If you give me some specifics on what you would like to understand i can help you out it'd just be hard to help out off the top of my head without anything to get me going.

if you mean when you're taking captured clips and trying to put them into a timeline heres how.
1. double click on the clip you want to be cutting.
2. find the point at which you want to start the cut, click the "{" button.
3. find the point at which you want to end the cut, click the "}" button.
4. Click on the image of video and drag it down into your timeline
thats it, pretty simple. Here's a picture that might help out, someone asked this question a while ago so i whipped this up.

If you have already done that and you want to say make a clip shorter theres 2 options. one being really simple and obvious.
option 1. Click on the end of the clip in the timeline and drag it in.
option 2. There should be a toolbar in the bottom right of your screen, select the tool that looks like a razor blade, then just click where you want to cut it.

I have a general editing question. WHen i first started editing for my schools TV show thing, i used i movie and did not do start and end points, i just moved to where i wanted to cut a clip, and hit apple T. Basically teh razor in premier. i would cut both sides and voila, theres my clip. now it seems others make the start and end point? Whats the proper way? Making start and end points or cutting clips in half and deleting parts you dont need

after FX isn't overwhelming at all, cause if you're using it you should have a good understanding of the basic principles to movie editing, and should know what you want to mess around with, like say if you want godzilla chasing you or maybe some die-hard explosions. it's actually more straight forward than premier, cause if you're like this fellow here who is new to film editing, he has to learn completely new concepts as opposed to expanding knowledge on something you're already familiar with.

im super new to this but what i do to cut a clip is i just go where i want to cut it and do then click the start and end thing and like extract...what is the better wat to do it..and what is that razor blade thing you guys are talking about??how do i get it up?? thanks..

i still disagree, just because there's so much more involved with after effects. If you put in a bunch of time you can figure it out and get what you want in the end, but its definitely more difficult than premiere. Premiere theres not all that much to figure out, probably the hardest thing to learn with premiere for me is color correcting cause thats completely new to me. This is how it is with AE, everything involved with that program is new to me. I've never done any 3d design before so some of that stuff is hard to grasp. I suppose if you have the right background AE might be easier to learn than premiere, but for most people i think AE is harder to master.

That razor blade thing is called the "cut tool". Put the marker on the spot you want to cut and put put the cut took ontop of that mark and right click. It will cut the clip.
