If that's the entirety of your opinion on olympic halfpipe skiing, why did you bother making a thread about that?

i'm not a fan of FIS, but I'd like to see skiing halfpipe join the ranks of speedwalking and synchronized swimming.

Yes.
It's the biggest stage in the world, and would earn the respect that the atheletes truly deserve.
If boarding pipe is in, then why not skiing pipe? Skiers have proven that they provide an even higher level of pipe competition in the X-Games.

yea I think half pipe skiing would bring such a boost to the sport, and a much needed cash injection, although i gotta agree the whole drugs testing thing would mean there would be like 3 competitors...

Its pretty sad that one of the first things everyone thinks about is that most of the athletes couldnt participate because of drugs... maybe that says something about our sport?

Yes. It can replace moguls. And we'll kick out DH for big air, SL for slopestyle, and GS for a railjam. Now that would be awesome.

i see no reason why snowboarding should be removed from the olympics.
and skiing halfpipe should deffinatly be in them. its stupid that it isnt.

it would be worse than the x games
and im not saying the x games are bad, but the judging probably wouldnt be too great. would they know the difference in difficulty between an uphill flatspin and a downhill cork 5? i doubt it. and style would be almost obsolete. you really need to know the sport to judge a competition and the IOC judges just wouldnt be knowledgeable enough.

Judging in the boarding pipe has gone well.
Why wouldn't skiing?

i guess it all comes down to how much work they put into the event. i dont think they would half-ass it, but would it really reflect the values of the sport? i dont think it will. dont get me wrong, the skiing will be great, but i wouldnt be as into it as i would with the us open or the wsi.

i think skiers and knuckledraggers should both compete against eachother for world dominance in the olympics!
that would be epic.

yes because it would get a lot more money into the sport
no because it would create a wave of robots with identical style and tricks and I would constantly get asked by relatives "do you know simon dumont or tanner hall?"

hahaha so true. its bad enough when ppl watch xgames and try to start up a conversation like that. but its fun to make up a pro and then they are like "ya hes sick" then u say "ya he doesnt exist"

yea but seriously though racers are really good, its tough to ski like that, i bet most of you kids on here jsut ski park and cant rip pow or do big mountain or anything cause you cant actually ski, and i dont think pipe should be in cause the olympic announcers woudl be like "and he does a backwards whirlybird 1080!!!! WOOOHOOO"

who would honestly say no to this question. this is a ski community who supports all kinds of freestyle skiing. considering halfpipe skiing is a main part of freestyle skiing, id say the great majority of us would like to see halfpipe skiing as an olympic event.

to make ppl like you who care about stupid stuff mad

Nah, the Olympics are fuckin retarded, they don't deserve sports like skiing. Leave skiing in real competitions and such. The Olympic committee would just make it all gay and put on hella restrictions and stuff. They would find a way to make it not cool. It would be great to get the exposure but not from putting it in the Olympics. Obviously when I refer to skiing here it is halfpipe, slopestyle, etc etc.... not racing, moguls or aerials.

we should have pipe or any freeskiing in the olympics because it will change freeskiing, and all of its glory. skiing isn't about winning the comp its all about haveing a good time on a mountain. also it will give pipe skiing to much pubbisity(sorry i cant spell) and before you know it every one will have twin tips and we will just be like snowboarding, there will be to man people into the shit and you will not want to ski as much.
sorry if my spelling and grammer is a little off, but i think that people should think about what freeskiing will be in the future.

it would definitly be good for the sport, but what if we turn into snowboarding now, we will have gayper redneck kids wearing camo and rockin twins acting badass, thats not good either... im kind of split i guess

they would probably tell dumont: "ok young man, we all know you love to boost but the insurance is just to high for you to be going 25 feet out. were limiting you to 18 feet."

yeah that makes sense, since DH skiers go about twice as big as freeskiers at a big air comp.

but my main thing about the olympics is that I think the olympics would need to change a little. for instance in snowboard pipe you need to do at least one straight air. and in my opinion any pipe run with one straight air is not world class.

it should. but it would take attention and profit away from NASTAR, and nooo oh nooo they wouldnt have any of that.

That's not the Olympics that makes that rule, it's snowboarder's preference. You'll notice that they all perform at least one standard maneuver in pro events like XGames too.
They simply view a pipe run differently than skiers. Where skiers are more concerned with a pure trickfest, snowboarders consider a standard trick to be a critical element in a well-rounded run.
The viewpoint they have, is that a run without a standard maneuver is lacking a very important aspect of the sport. It just shows that boarders still have more of a skate/surf mentality...
Personally I like it, it ensures that style is still super important, and it looks sick to see a super stylish straight air in the middle of a run that is otherwise tech as hell.
The way ski pipe is going, soon you will never see a run with less than at least 720 every single hit, and I think that's taking away some really impressive shit from the equation (think Laurents alley-oop first hit in 06 winter X).
Anyways, I realize that's a litle off topic. Of course ski pipe should be in the Olympics! FIS is fucking retarded that they haven't already submitted it for Vancouver, because the IOC would likely be more than willing to accept it.
