ok, I know this guy and he has been a snowboarder for the last 6 years and just crossed over to skiing this year. The problem is that he now calls himself a newschooler and doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. He thinks he is the jibbing master and has never even attempted rails on skis. He just got a brand new pair of volkl v-pros for all-mountain skiing and then tells me he wants a pair of jibbing skis so I just dont get it. Why didn't he just buy a pair of sleezy park skis. I'm telling you, this guy has no idea what he's talking about and all of a sudden wants to become a skiing big shot. He's fallen towards the weaker ski companies of dynastar and k2, which have never really been well respected in the skiing world. The only dynastar ski that was worth any money at all was the candide thovex model, but then he moved to solomon. And just because Seth Morrison rides the K2, it doesn't make them the best ski on the planet.
Another thing that I dont like is that he reads all these forums for information on skis and then when he sees a ski that is recommended he suddenly believes it's some kind of amazing work of art. He has no concern for finding a ski that works for him and lets other people in his same situation put words in his mouth. I've been skiing for 16 years now and find that this guy and people like him are ruining what skiing is all about. Dont get me wrong, I'm not some old geezer riding some solomon x-screm skis. I'm into the whole newschool thing is well and enjoy airtime like the best of them, but I try and balance it out with the true technicalities of skiing. Hopefully this guy I know will figure that out and not become some grungy park skiing doush bag. What's worst of all, he's my youunger brother.
