i hear fritchi freeride bindings are bombproof. anyone know much about them or other randonees. can they handle big kicker sessions, cliff drops, switch landings...

not many ppl on here have those bindings, cuz a lot of ppl here are on the east coast, i think your question would be best answered by the ppl at powdermag.com forums

I have them mounted on Seth Pistols and Work Stinx. They are awesome and don't pre-release. They can break though, the little plastic riser can fall off if you beat on it. There is no question they are the best all around touring bindings.
When you mount them you are off the ski quite a bit and the titanium rail in between the toe and heal can flex wich makes them a little wobbly at first. You'll figure out how to ski them but if you are primarilly looking to jib in them I'd buy a solomon binding and a pair of Alpine trekers for getting into the BC. They don't seem to be a great jumping binding to me but they rule for touring.

i was thinking about mounting them on my explosivs, but am not positive on how much BC skiing i'll do in northern VT.

i was thinking about bindings like that for going up tuckerman's, but then i was like, 'fuck, you hike up, not ski up......'

I have them, tour in spring summer and some pre season and rip pow and drop cliffs in winter, they're nice. not as good as alpine would be though

I've had freerides for the past year, just made the switch to the Naxo Nx21.

The Naxo, IMO, is much much better.

Beefier, IMO better performance going down, touring is better, and these new Naxo seem burlier, much more than the old ones. And no insta tele like with the FR.

I liked the FR, but the Nx21 is the best touring bindings on the market right now.

id say go with alpine trekkers if you dont plan on doing a lot of bc...otherwise the naxos look a lot tougher

Trekkers = Meh.

After using them for a year, then FR, and now the Naxo Nx21....I think the Nx21 is the best option.

if you are touring once a year, or dropping 50 footers in the BC, then they are good.

But if you do it even somewhat frequently the difference in touring and weight is worth it.

I'm not dropping anything bigger than 20 feet in the BC usually, so I'm not too concerned with how the bindings will handle big drops. You just have to adjust little bits of the way you ski and they are ok.

So...if you plan on touring only a few times a year and your goal is to charge super hard, trekkers are a good option.

IMO....most people will be ok in Naxo or FR, and the difference when touring is substantial.

probably 1 out of every 1000 members here have an at set up wrong board dude and any the the free rides arnt bomb proof, they have been know to break fast, they way to go is trekkers on like a p14 or p18 somthing like that.

Fuck fritchis, they explode if you rip. I would much rather trek in my trekkers and ski in a real racestock binding then tour with a plastic piece of garbage that explodes when you drop 30 footers.

Note what I wrote.....

first....the Nx21 is better than the FR.

Second....I said if you charge very hard in the BC, trekkers are a better option.

If you are only hucking 20 footers and skiing powder, the Naxo or FR are more than sufficient. If you are charging harder than that, they aren't the best bindings to use.

o...and my Trekkers broke in 10 days, the FR had about 25 total days and no breakage.

Well I've never owned/ridden "hippy freerides" but I've toured with people who have and known at least 4 different people who have blown them up or bent them to shit. Everyone told me not to get the trekkers telling me how bad they suck,exc but I've toured on them a bunch even went on a mountaineering trip with them and had no problems keeping up with the group. They are heavy as fuck but I feel safer skiing with real bindings when it comes time to rip the line. I would get them if I were just going out to make 8's in the backcountry but thats rarely the case. Besides I dont go on very long tours I'll skin for like 3-4 hours at a time, max.

in which case Trekkers are the best choice for you.

If you are serious about the touring aspect than Naxo/FR are just better for the job.
