it's really not all that great. i mean ya, it's definitely a nice little package but as far as tech specs go the pc i just built for around $300 (i used my old case, burner/drive, and HDD) is equally as good. Core2duo 2ghz, 256mb 256bit graphics card, 2gb DDR2 memory... Not dissing apple or the imac in any way cause its a sick little machine that has a lot to offer but they have some great marketing to get people to pay so much for something that really isnt extraordinary.
So, you re-used your case (some ugly, noisy, beige piece of shit maybe?) and your old burner and hard drive. Was your hard drive a 250 or 320 7200 rpm serial ata drive? Do you have a built in video camera (iSight)? Is your computer the size of a fucking sick looking 20 or 24 inch LCD? Does it come with a warranty from yourself?
I fail to see how your comparison proves/means anything, other than you think some homebrew mix of random computer parts you put together comes close to being as nice as the new iMacs.
Fuck I wish I had more money, I been spending to much lately, need to save some and now mac comes out with this shit.... those bastards lol. The new dot mac and ilife 08 look really sick. Thats so cool if you have an iphone that you can digitally send pics you just took straight to your pic page on dot mac, thats epic.
i knew there was going to be a response like that. First off, the case isn't what makes a computer loud, its the parts in side; the case has nothing to do with it. The case i used isnt beautiful by any means but it gets the job done and thats all that mattered. If i wanted to i could drop another $100-$150 and pick up a really sick case which i might do so i can get some better airflow... And yes it's 250b 7200 rpm... 7200 rpm is the standard now its hard to find slower than that anyways. I ask myself... do i really need a built in video camera? no. And more me, side doesnt matter i just keep my computer under my desk and im fine with it. Im not saying that you can beat the slickness and some features of the imac, cause you cant. I'm just saying that functionally it can be beaten at a fraction of the price. And yes, all the individual parts come with warranties.
And for your conclusion i'm gunna have to go and say that once again, you cant beat the slickness of the imac but you can match/beat the functionality of it for faarrr less. Minus say the built in video camera but i dont really see the point in having one so it doesnt bother me. There are some other features im sure would be nice to have but i can live without them.
yes i know. im just saying they have great marketing to be able to sell a $500 machine(parts wise) for $3000 or whatever they go for. And honestly, building a computer isnt hard, the hardest thing is buying to parts to make sure they're compatable, after that you just put the cards in the appropriate slots.
ha that is why everyone I know that took "computer systems" at my school hates on me for having a mac, but hey, if anything I like the software ie pro applications and what not, plus, i dropped 100 bucks and now I have windows and OSX. but hey what ever floats your boat. I payed 1500 for my imac, I have a huge screen too btw which could shoot up the price of a comp but it doesnt really matter, I think it was worth it.
i cant wait till mac starts putting ilife on windows. dont worry it'll happen. microsoft is putting office and internet explorer in the new imacs. so really there shouldnt be a competition between the two OS's since they are now helping eachother out.
I'm sorry, but the keyboard has nothing to do with windows at all. A keyboard is a peice of hardware, windows is an operating system. You can't compare the two.
I have a mac book pro, but i personally would never ever by a mac unless your doing some sort of specific job on it, example:photography, editing, education program, or something like that, i mean if i had a mac for my normal computer to do stuff like im doing now, IM, NS, facebook, email, everything else i do on a computer i would kill myself
who knows when the macbooks come out? cause i think i wanna get one, maybe like the one year older version, maybe itll be a little cheaper? depending on when they come out.
not everything is compatible with a mac. they are overpriced for what you get inside. no point in getting a mac if you not into photography, producing music and movies, that kind of stuff.
wow a wireless keyboard. HOLY SHIT THATS NEW!...not
why would a fucking keyboard be better then anything microsoft made? basically a shiny white piece of plastic with the minimal amount of keys as possible. there are much better keyboards.
I highly disagree, the operating system is genrally more stable, most things bsides direct programs are completely compatible now, and you can easily run windows on your mac at the same time as mac os.....getting ride fo the entire compatibility issue. If I was going to use a computer for normal stuff i would buy the litte mac min and just use that, thats what this computer nerd at my school did, he use to hate macs soo much now he's a mac freak. i find there si less hassel when i am using a mac, i don't have to think about other shit going down, or all of these gay ass windows alerts that pop up for no god dammed reason.
The apple operating system is why you get a mac. you don't get it for whats inside. You are paying to not have your computer decide to take a shit and stop working 5 hours before your final class essay is due. Or a big business report. It is a much better designed system the windows which will let programs run even if there is not enough memory avalible for them. Also one of the main reasons to go with the apple operating system is the avalibility of programs like Final Cut. And Best of all Color. it is amazing. Also jut having everything work is a big plus. I spent 7 hours today trying to get my grandmothers computer to work right and recognize a printer without fucking around anything else. Still does not work right. Also her computer is supper slow and it is only a year or so old. My Mac is over a year old and it starts up in 10 seconds. it takes my grandmothers computer 10 minutes. No exageration.
they might be more stable that older versions of windows.. im running vista now, never had a crash since I got it (I got it the day after it launched). However I've also been using an imac (the one before this one, has the intel processor) during the same periond and it has frozen 3 times on me so far.
you might wanna run some anti virus and registry cleaner on her computer. Equally if it was a $200 pos computer to start with then theres probably not too much hope.
Put it this way, if you spend the same $$ building a PC as you do buying a Mac then you're gonna have a computer that is just as reliable and better specd. Not that I'm hating on macs, they are sweet and in terms of good looks they win hands down (although there are some pretty tidy pc cases and displays now). It just pisses me off when people think the sun shines out of apples arse
neither is 'better' than the other. if you're gonna start talking about copying the looks of operating systems, look at linux. various distros have had features seen in osx and vista before either of them had it.
