Anyone experienced with automotive painting?

I am looking to get a DIY set up, not for painting cars, but for painting smaller metal parts.
I am curious if anyone here has experience and might be willing to share some insight on tools (guns, compressors, etc) and techniques.

i painted my truck, me and my dada bought it and re-did it completely. i wouldnt say im that experienced but i could tell you what i know.
if ur just painting small metal parts you'd probably wan just a basic gravity feed HVLP spray gun and probably just a smaller detail gun depending on how big these peices are. as for a compressor, we had to go and and get a new one and a big one at that, you cant really pull it off with a small portable comperssor for automotive.
as for technique, for the most part its just a simple drag across the part. when you squeeze the trigger on ur gun halfway, only air will come out and when you squeeze it the rest of the way paint is fed into the line. the idea is to always have at least airflow thru the gun so as ur approaching the edge of the piece you want to be blowing air and as soon as you get to the piece you obviously feed the paint.
idk what else to say here so hope that helps
