It was in...1997 or something. Way before the 1080s, people just weren't ready for them yet.

why does it matter they both own. seth is more big mountain lines. Jp is more backcountry but is starting to go big lines in AK. its to early to compare the two

the 1080 was the FIRST real new school twin tip. The olin mark IV which i said in another post was the first twin tip. It was a ballet ski ( there was a post on here making fun of it sometime ago......a guy in a one piece doing flat land tricks). But the 1080 is the FIRST real full size, full tiwn. First it was the 1080, then line osteness, K2 enemy ( the one with the stars on it), dynastar concepts, rossi pow airs.

I agree that they are tough to compare. But to say the Pollard, Ant B, Jamie Pierre, throw down as hard in big lines as Seth is absurd, if that is what you meant. Hugo is better at arcing through super sick lines, as if he were in a race course, Seth is better than Hugo at tricking off cliffs, straightlines, and probably at spine walls too. PY is insane, and does not get enough press, but I don't think he throws down on Seth's level. The only guys who are really up there with Seth right now are McConkey, Kreitler, Nobis, and maybe Hugo when it comes to really charging the big stuff. And no one throws huge tricks off huge cliffs IN huge lines the way Seth does.

Matman, you are wrong, the Poacher was the first modern twin. Salomon just marketed it very well and built a longer one, but K2 was the first.

The question was about big mountain, so Pollard's BC tricks do not apply. Treadway does not charge harder than Seth, he is sick, but I have never seen him throw down as hard as Seth. Hugo has an argument, the sickest thing I have seen him do is the Harrison Hotel line in Focused. I don't think it is as sick as Seth's best Morrison Hotel lines in SM2 and SM3, but is is still insane, and Hugo charges it faster. I would not put Hugo above Seth, but he has an argument.
Having reread the question, it clearly is about big mountain, where Seth is far above JP. This is not a stupid question at all.

Line didn't make twin tip skis until the fall or 1999. They had prototypes the 98-99 season for athletes, but didn't sell until that year. Salomon didn't sell 1080's until the fall of the 1998-99 season.

in terms of big mountain skiing... seth, but to be honest... there are guys who rip harder than he does. Hugo Harisson, Shane McConkey are two names i can think of.

That's true. I don't think he is on Seth's level, but have you seen Waiting Game? His ability to ski Alaskan lines in that movie really impressed me.

if you think jp has only been skiing big mountain for a couple years you are a moron. Jp was born in Canada before park skiing was huge he grew up skiing big mountain.

Hugo and Treadway slay the big mountain with ridiculous tech/fast lines. Pollard does decent stuff backwards. JP just recently got into big mountain, and though he shreds, he isnt up there with the top dogs(big mountain).
Seth does the stuptor gnar lines, and does them fast, and then does backflips off the biggest cliff he can find. Seth is my hero, and he gets my vote.

that si hard to say...jp has stepped up his game in the big mountain realm in the past few years and has always had one of the best freestyle games in the biz...check out "ski porn" and it may sway your opinion. in one word jp has LONGEVITY
seth will always be the best big mountain rider though. he took it to the level its at now and still at his age can lay down some of best turns of anyone on the planet.
my vote goes to seth but jp is right there.

SETH
evidence: in ski movie two he lands a cliff drop into an avalanche, and in ski movie three he straightlines under an avalanche. Thus, he is the most ballsy skier alive.

jp is one of the godfathers of newschool skiing, and i have tons of respect for the guy. but seth just charges it and straightlines the steepest most rediculous shit. and he does tricks off jinormous cliffs. but jp does slay the shit out of bc booters.

This thread is dumb, but I want to get my post count up.
Between Seth and JP, seth is a much better big mountain skier. But as others have said there are others who are just as good if not better than him. Hugo has been mentioned a few times and he fucking kills it. His segment in focused was insane. He stomped the biggest cliff I have ever seen stomped on film(any one have clip of that online). The name that I would have thought more people would be saying though is Nobis, doesnt anybody remember his lines from the TGR flicks? Dude fucking kills it.

i think weve concluded in this thread that:
jp is a beter all around skier, but can ski big lines. But seth can trick off cliffs like no other

Haha! I love Pollard and Tony probably more than the next guy, but you have to be fucking retarded to even think of putting them near the same level as seth.
I hope your post was sarcastic
