its just human nature to single out the assholes and think "everyone" is an asshole.

pretty sure they could have renovated watsons instead of intrawesting it.



alta-tude is just a supreme respect for pow. there are alot of unwritten rules at alta. and there is a communnity aspect too - local rippers hate parkrats just as much as, they hate gapers. its a wierd duality, they don't want you taking their pow, but they also hate because of they don't understand why jibbers dont love pow so much. also, "hate" is a strong word, if you're alone and go up on a lift with 'tuders all it takes is a good "omg that last line was soo awesome" convo or askign the whereabouts of the nearest safety meeting to get yourself "in". respect pow, hate gapers, respect the awesome mountain that is alta.

How are people uninformed? There hasn't been much discussion that actually involves information about Alta........ The only real topic is a) New lift ticket system which is fact....... and b) People's interpretation of the attitude that can be found at Alta.

the reason for the actual location change (a mere 100 feet) is because the old watson's was on a small slope, which had to be hiked up from the groomer/collin's midstation.

Gapers HATE hiking, and seeing as 95% of all revenue at any resort is earned through tourists; not the locals;it made sense to move the restaurant to a more convenient location.

Does anyone really need to explain that Alta has an elitist, snobbish aspect to it, considering they are one of the only resorts in the world that doesn't allow snowboarding?

Next thing you know they might decide to ban twin tips, using some excuse about the spray off the tails getting in old peoples eyes when they are following a twin tipper along one of their hallowed traverses.

Fun terrain, but that policy alone is enough to permanently sour me on their management.

well, where did you get that fact from (about why watsons was moved)...since this past winter..not only did anno (i think thats how you spell the shit) jude, mitch and a whooolle slew of other people who actually have a shit to do with watsons tell me other reasons....just checking though.

Well, if that were actually true, then there would be no need to ban them because if it "sucked" they wouldn't want to ride there. But maybe they should be ones who get to decide that.

That's like saying "skis in a halfpipe would suck".

Everyone's favorite rationale for an ignorant, predjudicial policy: "THE TRAVERSES".

If you travel the world a little you will find (surprise!) that Alta is not the only ski hill on the planet that has a lot of traverses. Go ski Fernie for a day, or any of the countless other traverse-ridden hills out there that have plenty of ripping snowboarders, who don't seem to think it sucks.

Yes, snowboarding alta would suck.

Alta is the shit, it has one of the coolest vibes, sickest terrain, etc etc. Kids that bitch about alta's attitude... its fine! Go ski at PC with 9283752985729578 of ur closest friends on a mountain that is laid out horrible and has choke points everywhere, gets about half as much snow, and is fucking flat.


But oh yeah they have a park.

You guys can all have PC area resorts, and Ill keep going up LLC and BCC.

and to tride:

its true, not a single snowboarder could get across the high-t without unstrapping and walking. i couldn't even imagine how hard it would be for them to break trail on a pow day.
a good example (if ur even that familiar with lcc) is the mineral traverse at snowbird going all the way to the bookends. you never see boarders making it the whole way, and there is an obvious reason for that. (PAIN IN THE ASS)

Does it really matter whether or not someone has to unstrap and walk or not? They will if they have to, and the skiers will go around them. Just like heading over to cedar bowl in Fernie; skiers get over there faster and easier, snowboarders take longer and end up walking a bit, generally creating their own little boot pack beside the skiers traversing, or when they do walk on the traverse the skiers simply go around them. Guess what, nobody worries about it, nobody cries about it, and nobody tries to get snowboards banned either.

If a snowboarder decides that it "sucks" then they don't bother doing it, which is a far cry from being banned from making the choice on their own.

Everyone has to take off their skis and boards in Whistler to get to Spankys, or Flute, etc. Hiking Flute takes a lot longer than it would to walk across the high-t at Alta, yet Whistler hasn't banned people from doing it.

Your example about the mineral traverse at the bird means what, that they should ban snowboarding from their resort also?

Yeah..... That's why the majority of the kids I rip with have a pass to PC for the PARK and Brighton or an LCC or BCC resort for the POW. People don't go to PC to ski the mountain..... Only those few runs that have mounds of snow and slide bars.

I definately think snowboarders could rock the hi-t. My reasoning being that I have no problem getting to hi-boy without poles and without skating. I certainly will not argue that it would be an easy task, but at the end of the day, the hi-t is downhill the whole way...

high t would have to open up like a month later than normal. unless they're nasty, crossing early season high t on snowboard would at best suck goat ass and at wrost produce lots of bad injuries

i guess you've never been one of the first ones goin across high-t on a pow day. how bout gettin to gunsight or eddie's? there's alot more to get to from high-t than just stonecrusher, highboy, rustler (high and west) and the nest, and thirds (i'm sure u already know this). how bout backside for that matter (plus the bottom of just mentioned w/out goin to left at last minute)? rocky? east castle? i guess you must have really fast bases. i dont doubt you can make it, it must just take you longer (on pow day) and keep your friends waiting.

and tride, you obviously dont know how aggro altaheads are. they would NOT go AROUND walking snowboarders, they'd push them off. shit they do that to gapers, and they're still skiers. we're not talkin about bootpacks where everyone gets off their sticks and hikes.

nonetheless, boarders are content with snowbird and brighton as it is, so this convo. is pointless.

Yeah, your hill is oh so incredibly unique, and special, because it has some of these things called "traverses". WOW! There really must be no other hills on the planet with terrain that is 100% "skier specific" like you guys make Alta out to be.

Listen to yourselves, acting like it is a one in a million geographic anomaly. So are we to assume that every skier (even complete beginners) are so much better than anyone on a snowboard could ever be at riding any part of your precious mountain?

Snowboarders would "hate it" so I guess the ban is really Alta doing them great a big favor, right? I'm sure they all really appreciate it, in fact Alta must get "thank you for looking after us" letters from snowboarders all winter long.

People used to say that "the colored folk would hate riding in the front of the bus" too....... it wasn't an unjust rule, it was all for their own good, right?

And if you are too fucking useless (or should I say arrogant?) to weave around someone on a traverse, then how do you deal with beginner/slower skiers? Shit, you might as well ban them too.

At least now I know what "alta-tude" means. Thankfully it is one of the only hills in the world where that kind of self-righteous attitude still exists. Have fun in your sanctimonious little world fuckers, you really are special, that's for sure.

chill the fuck out. nowhere did anyone say they backed the alta aggro. that place is what it is..made up of a bunch of old timers (as far as ur concerned)... even with the new tix scanners. time and again you've shown you really do not know alta. people are fuckin psycho up there; literally; about their snow, and that's all it really comes down to.

not in one of my posts did i say the terrain is whats holding alta back from snowboarders. yes, i believe alta is for skiers, and should be for skiers. fuck it dude, snowbird right next door is way bigger anyway, it fucking wraps around part of alta! plenty of shred for them to do there! but IF alta were to allow snowboarders it would change the whole feeling of alta, and i wouldnt want that to happen. alta is alta is alta is alta pretty much. im chill with snowboarders all the time, dont give a fuck what you ride, but i dont want alta turning into brighton. no disrespect to brighton, that place is sickgnar and i have a lot of fun whenever i go there, but its got a totally different vibe than that from alta. and i love alta. in the words of papa muntz man...dont go changing!!! and please, relate this shit to racism some more...since people who have the money to ski and ride on such a regular basis really must have such a hard life after all right?

except for alta, cause their snow stays freshy fresh all the time (except last year), so maybe some things are better left the way they are. anyways, like bob said, brighton is boarder territory, and theyre happy w/ snowbird as well. alta would become murder capital of utah if they let boarders in anways.

this is kind of old news. Onno was talking about making the switch last year before alta even opend. I was at a meeting with him, his lawyer, and other alta managers.
they made the decision becuase:
-people had been making fake season passes
-they don't have to rely on lifties-haha, and snow safety/fun patrol to check tickets
-and now lift lines will be more organized and hopefully run alot quicker and smoother

and I don't blame them, if I owned alta I would be pissed if people were making passes and skiing for free, its not fair to the people that have actually paid money. people had been making passes and just leavin it in the little clear thing on your sleeve or somehwere on the jacket. thats why they started making people take them out, so they could make sure. I know they busted some people and boy oh boy did they have to pay a big fine I'm sure.

but its not a bad thing in my opinion, it will keep fuckers out who haven't paid.

and as far as the new quad and the new watsons building are concerned, that needed to happen. it sucked having to ride up one lift, then get off, and wait in another lift line before you could be at the top of collins so u can get to high-t, backside, etc.

and the new building is sick, I work there, it was a NEED based purchase. the other building was fallin apart and shit didn't work, I've talked about it alot with the managers. the building is nice, functions well, and can serve more people. yah there are only two live-in rooms, but with the space they were provided, and they were under restrictions from the forest service, they did a good job. the design is great, works well for staff, and can fit alot of costumers. if they had more space I'm sure they would have added more living quarters. but room to eat and store food, not to mention this big ass fridge for kegs, is way more important anyway.

atleast alta isn't pullin a snowbird. they aren't trying to make huge ass buildings then claim it blends in with hellgate-thats what the operations manager of the cliff lodge told me, and my friends and I laughed in his face. not to mention alta hasn't drilled a tunnel through the mountain, and I don't think they plan to. give them a break. alta is way more environmentally conscience then snowbird. and everybody at alta is way nicer then the people at the bird, yah there are assholes every where, but some of the nicest and coolest people I have ever met in my life, reside and ski at Alta.
